The FAO Food Price Index (FFPI) measures the monthly change in international prices of a basket of food products. It has been tracked for more than 50 years. In February 2022 it reached 140.7, the highest value recorded. In real terms, it is only comparable with 1974.
It is well known that high food prices correlate with social unrest. In view of this, it is reasonable to predict that if the food prices keep increasing, political upheaval could soon erupt in different areas of the world.
