KNIGHT LANDS: MMORPG BUILT ON TERRA
GameFi or Decentralised Gaming is continuing to grow right across the entire blockchain sector and at an extremely fast rate. GameFi has also been extremely popular amongst investors and gamers a like with many games drawing in significant investment and attention.
GameFi has continued to not only grow in popularity but we are seeing some experienced developers enter the scene to lift Blockchain gaming from NFT turn based card games to actual multiplayer games. Although there aren't any that I know of that have delivered on this yet but there are a number in the works.
Today we sit down with the creators of KNIGHT LANDS and learn more about their massive multiplayer, open world MMORPG but first let's take a look at what they're building.
Free to Play, play to Earn
Knight Lands is a Terra (Luna) Network MMORPG that boasts large open spaces an inbuilt player economy where players can craft, trade and buy items from loot. Players can also purchase land and in game items to level up their players faster.
It is also important to note that this isn't exactly a new game but rather a migration from web2 to web3 which is a good thing because we get to take a look at the current game to see what we can expect on Terra.
Without spending too much time focusing on the original game Knights Prologue which was a Beta version of the game and it is now getting a complete revamp with an entire world to explore and characters to control.
The initial game was very much a click turn based game where you could undertake quests, participate in raids and level up your character which also had a number of different styles. For my quick spin I selected mage because, well. Mages are awesome!
The game played well, fast and can auto a lot of the attacks to make it faster it included an energy bar which had to refill either by time or by levelling up. It reminded me very much of the old MySpace game Mafia Wars for some reason.
But the new game gets a complete over hall of well eveyt hing which also includes 3D graphics, controllable characters and a world to explore! The team recently put out an article on their official Medium account explaining the character updates and the work underway to bring the game to life with new characters!
So why move to Crypto?
The team recently announced their shift to crypto was due to the expanding world of GameFi and selected Terra (Luna) Network for it's strong community support and the ability to tap into a new audience further driving adoption of their game.
Based on this, I reached out to the developers to find out a little more and here is what they said:
Can you tell us a bit about yourself and the team?
I’ve worked on a few different personal gaming projects in the past with large amounts of success when bringing them to market. The most recent is a browser game called Knights: Prologue which is available to play now.
Our team thrives to build new and innovative prospects in the crypto and gaming spaces.
What inspired you to create Knight Lands?
With the rise of Play-to-Earn and the recent Early Access crowdfunding boom we’ve seen in the gaming industry over the past decade, we’ve produced some great projects, but we saw a lot wrong with the MMORPG sector on both economic and gameplay levels.
We decided it was time to build a game that takes all the best parts of MMORPG’s you see today and build on them with refreshing and enticing features.
What new and innovative features will Knight Lands bring to Decentralised gaming?
Great question! In the crowded Play-to-Earn gaming space, it’s no secret that from a funding perspective, there are a lot of projects that wouldn’t even see the light of day if they were made a decade ago. Yet, they get millions from crypto investors and deliver fairly basic arcade games a lot of the time.
Even some of the MMOs in the blockchain space aren't very well layered and don’t take longevity into account.
What we’re creating with Knight Lands isn’t just a game that incorporates the use of Macro Economics using Crypto and NFTs, but a game that plans to raise the bar for MMORPGs for the traditional gaming industry as well.
Will there be any ways to get involved early for the community?
We’re always doing community events in our current Knights: Prologue game. There are actually daily free events where you can earn $FLESH token that’ll be usable in the next game.
As well as that, we also host 2 seasonal events every quarter that gives you the chance to win free NFTs for Knight Lands. This often includes armor skins to apply in the next game and Pets that’ll follow you around in Knight Lands.
What is the most important thing you'd like readers to know about Knight Lands?
With crypto projects in general, there’s often radio silence between the team and the audience. Let me just say that we’re prioritizing transparency above everything else in the game development process.
The door is always open for you to check out what we’re working on and you can do so by viewing our fortnightly Dev Blog on Medium that has an article and a quick video showing all our progress in the development of the game.
Please feel free to add anything else you think might be Important
