Secret Bitcoin Mining Operation Hidden in School Located
The costs of mining Bitcoin continue to rise as inflation begins to impact the cost of energy and while in theory this should translate to a Bitcoin price increase the market has taken a dive shedding over $US50 Billion.
Bitcoin continues to dominate the market with a 24 hour trading volume of $US16 Billion which indicates an ongoing relatively healthy liquidity market for traders to buy and sell into.
One School teach decided to take the opportunity to cash in on the market by establishing a Secret Bitcoin Mining set up at a local US school in Massachusetts.
Hidden School setup
The elaborate set up is alleged by prosecutors to have been established within a vacant cavity that was allocated as a crawl space to access internal parts of the building. The mining set up was located by the towns facilities director who on a routine inspection located out of place wires and computer systems having feared the worse contacted police.
The Coast Guard were notified to investigate and identified the elaborate set up as a Bitcoin mining rig illegally connected to the schools power grid and it is estimated the set up stole $US18,000 worth of electricity.
Suspect located
After a 3 month investigation it was identified that the towns assistant facilities director was responsible for the Bitcoin Mining Rig and resigned from his position and a criminal complaint issued.
The Assistant Director was notified to present at court on Thursday to face chargers of fraudulent use of electricity and vandalising a school however, failed to appear in hopes of having the hearing rescheduled but this was denied by the judge an a default warrant issued.
