Next Monday, I'll be talking about new opportunities that blockchains offer for the creative industries. I'll be using Hive as an example and The Ink Well community and its manifesto as a case study.
It would be great to have other Hiveans there: you can find all the information about the event and book your place here. (Leicester has a fabulous Space Museum right next to the Steam Museum, Richard III's tomb in the Cathedral and an unparalleled collection of German Expressionist Art in the New Walk Gallery).
I'm part of a panel of five, all with different interests around the blockchain space, and we've invited a broad range of creators, community activists, policy makers and digital media students from both universities in the city to come.
I asked for a low-tech round table format - I felt that was more conducive to a good discussion than standing behind a podium with a powerpoint presentation. I'll be really happy if we get five or six people who are interested on working together to build adoption in Leicester and the wider East Midlands.
There are so many different aspects of Hive and the potential social and economic benefits it can bring. We chose the creative industries because that was a good fit with the Business Festival. I will also mention the Saturday Savers Club because we've built that as a really easy way into the Hive ecosystem, together with a support structure for newcomers. I've linked up with the ocd onboarding programme so that I can provide free Hive accounts on the day.
Resources
I've pulled together some resources to give some insights into the Hive blockchain, what it's already doing and its potential, together with posts that explore some of the dilemmas we face and how blockchain could help.

Ambition to make UK a global hub for crypto asset technologies: proposals for regulatory regime
The UK is the largest financial centre globally outside the United States, and our tech industry is worth over $1tn; we are only the third country to hit this valuation after China and the US. This combined with world-leading [sic] systems of lay and financial regulation makes for a potent combination ... the UK consistently ranks at or near the top of research reports on 'crypto-readiness' and 'crypto-friendliness'. Tools to empower communities to create their own immutable online spaces, with their own token, their own rules and their own indestructible media hosting. Essentially, we take the power of Youtube from Google and the power of Twitter/Wordpress/Facebook from the corporations and we create the tools needed to give that power completely to the people - removing the middle men completely.
