Day 9 of the #12daysofchristmas challenge sees a change of precious metal, from silver to gold.
So far Ive covered:
The 1/2 Sovereign, exempt from Capital Gains Tax, maintains a precise weight of 3.99g, with dimensions of 19.30mm in diameter and 0.99mm in thickness, showcasing a meticulous attention to detail in its craftsmanship.
Originally introduced in 1544, the coin faced intermittent production halts until its revival in 1816 with the modern Sovereign. Widespread production continued until 1926, with a continued presence in Australia until 1933.
Despite its hiatus in circulation, the 1/2 Sovereign has persisted as a collectible and investment piece. Tens of thousands have been minted well into the 21st century, serving as gold bullion or collector's items. The coin's value extends beyond its gold content, influenced by factors such as production date and condition.
