Entertaining three children during the weekend can be a complicated or simple task and many times we think that we can only achieve it by spending a lot of money, but in truth we can do it in an economical way and surely more fun than playing with video games or screens.

First of all, I would like to point out that I don't have children, but I am going to base myself on the experience of looking after my 8 year old cousin during the summer months and I will explain to you what activities I would do during a full weekend and which are totally extrapolable in the case of 3 children in my care.

Saturday

Excursion to the Jurassic Museum of Asturias

All the children I know are always fascinated by the world of dinosaurs.

Therefore, an excursion that I find very interesting and entertaining is a visit to the Jurassic Museum of Asturias, which, unlike other museums where large skeletons are exhibited, the attraction lies in the exterior of the museum with more than 20 replicas of the main dinosaurs.

The children in this outdoor part of the museum have a great time watching fearsome dinosaurs such as T-Rex coming out of a eucalyptus tree.

At the same time, in this place they learn a lot about these beings that inhabited the Earth millions of years ago in a very amusing way, drawing their attention to the great size of the eggs of certain flying dinosaurs.

And like those dinosaurs that had a herbivorous diet, they developed different defence mechanisms in their bodies based on horns, like the Triceratops.

Or even some species such as the Euoplocephalus developed a kind of frame all over its back and powerful bony stubble on its tail to be able to hit its predators.

Additionally, going with me to this museum, apart from being a fun and learning session, is also a fun time taking pictures playing with perspective so that you get a picture of you kissing a Stegosaurus.

Another part of the museum is to enter the building where there are some exhibitions and didactic rooms. But it is usually necessary to book well in advance. So if this visit is an improvised weekend plan, we will only be able to access the shop area and buy some souvenirs or a game like this one that we can use to entertain the 3 children when we go back home.

Dinosaur educational game

With the game we bought at the museum, which I remember cost less than 5 euros, we took home a game that can be used to entertain the children for a few hours.

Make a model of a dinosaur skeleton

One of the games that come in the box that we can buy at the Jurassic Museum consists of creating the structure of a dinosaur's skeleton using wooden pieces.

There are three possible models, being in our case the Triceratops the dinosaur that we have to build.

With patience, the construction of this model following the instructions is possible for children under 10 years old, being an activity that promotes motor skills, develops reasoning and spatial orientation. So I see this type of game as a very good activity for children.

Science experiments

The box of the game bought at the museum comes with a book of experiments and a series of reagents that allow us to have fun and learn new things at the same time.

For example, one of the experiments involves simulating a volcanic eruption by mixing vinegar with red dye, flour and baking soda.

This causes a reaction that releases gas (CO2) and causes the liquid inside the crater to flow down the volcano.

It is a very colourful experiment that children want to repeat several times and serves to explain to them that in the interior of the earth there are areas with a high pressure of gases that cause the magma to come out of the cracks of the volcano with great explosiveness, causing the volcanic eruption.

In other words, another game that entertains and helps children to learn.

Sunday at the beach

Because I live in a coastal area and I have been thinking that the weekend I have to entertain the children is in the summer season, I think that one of the best entertainment options is to go to the beach.

I love the beach as a place for children's entertainment, mainly because it is an open place where you leave sedentary life behind and interact with nature.

At the same time, the beach is a fun place to create sand castles or get buried alive if they are tired from swimming, jumping or playing beach sports.

But it is also a small classroom where you can learn about different animal species.

And it is even a place to learn the difference between a male or female crab according to the shape of its abdomen.

Due to the tiredness that the beach generates, I'm almost sure that when they get home the children will be very tired and it may not be necessary to entertain them much, because from experience I know that they can fall asleep on your lap.
