Last days in South Africa
We decided to do something different today and enjoy a bit of the countryside. A concert was advertised at Casalinga.
Lee and Kiara
A concert was advertised with live music - so we decided to make the little ride. Jethro Tait and Micasa were performing.
It was not actually at Casalinga (where we used to go often in the good old days) but just a piece of ground nearby.
It was a bit of a disappointment because the food stalls were sold out and we were having to get refunds on food coupons that we had bought.
The rain poured down while the sun was out which was actually really beautiful.
We also couldn't go to Casalinga for lunch because they closed at 3.
Casalinga was owned by the famous golfer, Gary Player's daughter - not sure if she still owns it.
We ended up cutting our trip at the concert short to go to Monte Casino to enjoy some waffles at the famous Milky Lane. (Fun fact, my grandfather opened the first Milky lane in South Africa which was in Hillbrow and later the Milky Way in Cape Town!) The Cape Town branch was right opposite the sea and my mother used to work there when she was 20 years old.
So proud of the brand and very proud of my family's awesome successes! β€οΈ
My grandparents sold to a Spaniard who then franchised the concept - he of course made the big money.
It's a cool story to tell my friends and I told the story to Kiara and Tam today.
I made sure I took photographs of the waffles because I knew that would make a bit jealous (just a little!)
My brother, Lee, about to indulge
