Hello Friends! Thank you for visiting. I hope Tuesday treated all of you well. I’m not hanging out with any real bones in this photo, but I do love this crow and skull statuette I got at my local Michaels store. Every year, I look through the halloween section at local stores to find some decorations. I keep them up all year; it’s always Halloween in my home.
Today was quite a sleepy, lazy afternoon in our home; the heat wave in Southern California stops us from even playing in our own backyard! We’re lucky to have two dogs who also love to laze around on hot days. Our pug Hepburn especially loves a good, long nap in the air conditioning!
The heat has always wreaked havoc on my appetite, so it’s been hard to eat regularly; We’ve been eating a lot of charcuterie boards and salads. One of my favorite things to do is to roast a whole chicken (Or in this heat wave, a few chicken breasts to avoid standing over a hot stove for too long) and shred the meat to use for salads during the week. I also recently bought some shelled edamame that can be cooked easily in the microwave, and I’ve been adding it to a lot of dishes.
This salad has greens, chicken, cheese, edamame, and tomatoes, and it’s topped with sesame oil and seeds. It’s a great companion to some air fried pot stickers, or makes a wonderful snack on its own!
I also made one of my favorite refreshing summer cocktails today. While I don’t drink often, I enjoy a cold gin cocktail when the temperature soars into the 100s. I keep a lot of flavored syrups on hand, something I learned from ; it's a great way to quickly add a dash of flavor to soda water or cocktails. This cocktail has chilled gin, seltzer water, rose syrup to taste, and is topped off with a tiny bit of lemon or lime juice. Its pastel pink hue makes any day shine a little brighter.
Hope you enjoyed this little snippet of our Tuesday! Do you have any tips for keeping cool in a heatwave?
I look forward to your next visit. Later this week, we'll be taking another peek into the Curio Cabinet and looking at a very special specimen! I hope to see you all there.
