Hi fellow Hiveians,
Today I'm glad that we finally got the deck at the lake replaced!
Deck In Time for Summer
Summertime is a perfect time for a lot of things. If you are fortunate enough as we are, to have a place where you can spend some time near a lake it's one of the most satisfying things to have a nice deck to spend it on!
We have some family that owns a lake house which you may have seen if you've visited my blog here in the past, and one of the things that's nice is to get away from where we live and go up there for a few hours to relax, play or even for me to work from there instead of at home.
We recently were able to get the deck replaced! It took a while for it to be done for one reason or another but the job was finally done and it came out awesome!
It was good to see the progress on it. The deck that was here previously was a piece of shit to be honest but I think it was about 30 or so years old so I guess that comes with the territory. The materials they had 30 years ago I don't think last as long as they do now. Let's hope we can get another 30 or more years out of this one!
The guys that installed it were actually pretty fast! This was the progress they made on day one. They tore off the old piece of junk off the house and got this one built up to this point all in one day, damn!
When we came back the next day we weren't really expecting much, didn't know if they would get over to finish it up but sure enough the thing was finished! They did a nice job and it makes the house look pretty shitty in the rest of it hahaha I guess that's what happens when you give a small area a facelift.
I'm glad that they did the white trimboard around the perimeter of the deck. There wasn't one there before and I think that's part of what led the deck to fall apart, it wasn't sealed against the elements as strongly as it should have been. Granted I know that building code and peoples standards were different back then compared to now perhaps but still.
The other good part was that the deck here is secured to some nice concrete pilings. The old deck had a cinder block under it on the different posts so it really wasn't in amazing shape and if that cinder block cracked it was doomed. Thankfully pouring the concrete here is going to make that particular section of the deck withstand any weather that will be thrown at it!
I can't wait to get some nice grilling going on with the new deck! I know that would totally drop by with some delicious selections!
