Managing a community on Hive takes a lot of time and effort and not many are willing to take the challenge. There is little or no return to the team other than a sense of self satisfaction that you are promoting something you're passionate about and contributing to help Hive grow. Here's a few interesting communities I've discovered recently which I think deserves more exposure and support, along with my observations from a visitor point of view.
Hive Thrifted
created/hive-167845
How many of you use eBay to sell unwanted items or take them to thrift stores, or charity stores as we call them in UK? Now, there's an alternative - to sell them on Hive!
Hive Thrifted is created by and the idea is that you can sell your pre loved items on Hive, for Hive or HBD. All you need to do is to subscribe to the community (you can do that above), and make a post of the item you want to sell, along with some good photos and detailed description of the product. And don't forget the price and postage.
Hive Thrifted doesn't facilitate or arbitrate the transaction, that's between the buyer and seller. You need to make sure you protect yourself and don't fall into any scams, but hopefully Hivers are trustworthy enough to not do that. offers some very good advice on the community introduction post on this topic. She also talks about delivery charges. If your transaction is cross border, the postage shouldn't be that much different from if you were to buy something from an overseas internet website as we often do. In fact, the first Hive Thrifted transaction was between USA and UK!!
Next time you're selling some preloved items, why not consider Hive Thrifted? You get access to a much bigger group of buyers, and as a buyer you know who you're buying from. And the best thing? It helps to keep with the Hive economy circulate.

Be Frugal not Stingy
Continuing with our thrifty theme, I recently came across this new community called Be Frugal not Stingy by . I don't know about the rest of the world, but currently in UK, we're going through a cost of living crisis. Many people are trying to make their pennies stretch by living more frugally. Personally, I've started to try grow my own vegetables (without much success yet) but I'm confident things will improve as I get more experience. The other thing I've switched to is to make my own pancakes for breakfast. Using a pancake mix cost 1/4 the price compared to ready made pancakes, and only takes less than 10 minutes to make. In both cases, I'm saving myself quite a bit of money without sacrificing quality. I think that classifies as be frugal not stingy!
It seems is pretty new to running a community. For starters, he didn't do a community introduction post, or at least I couldn't find one. The most relevant post I found was this one below. Secondly, the community has no identity. If you're reading this
, please get a profile picture or logo, and a header image for your community. Having a great idea to build a community is good, but it needs an identity to promote it. I couldn't add the community logo here because you don't have one.

Hobbies and Nobbies
The Hobbies and Nobbies community is created by last year, but so far hasn't gained much traction. Maybe part of the problem is that many hobbies could fit in other bigger and more active communities, but there's also so many hobbies that don't have a home on Hive, and it would fit perfectly here. That's what led to
to creating this community.
The community introduction post below includes a nice long list of suggested hobbies. The downside is that is also includes a list of whales and witnesses. Tagging people unnecessarily is not a good way to start your community. My other observation is the mandatory 2% beneficiary when posting in the community. I get it the community wants to grow, and 2% isn't a massive figure, but as a community owner you have to ask yourself - what are you offering to users in return?
We all have hobbies of some sort and I think this community has great potential if managed well.

Tattoo World
This is a new community created by , barely a month old and has nearly one hundred subscribers. Personally I would never get a tattoo (I'm too chicken) but I think tattoos are interesting and often there's a story behind each one, even if you're drunk and didn't realise you're getting one - that's still a good story 😁. In some countries tattoos are banned and in others they're a form of art, potentially there could be many interesting stories here, and I look forward to reading more.
If I were to nitpick on the community, my first observation would be the no cross posting rule. Personally I'm not a big fan of cross posting, but there are times when this is warranted, and the community could potentially be missing out on some good tattoo related post by disallowing that. Second, tattoo is a form of art and sometimes may appear on some near private body parts making it NSFW, and not permitted in the community. In both cases, I think all you need is a good moderation team and for NSFW posts to be label as such. But of course, this is just my outsider's view.

Home Solutions
The last community is also a newish one that's been around for a month, and it's called Home Solutions created by . It's community description is "Quick and easy solutions to household chores. Tips, tricks, decoration and much more!". I love learning about household tips and tricks, and with such a diverse population on Hive, I'm sure every country will have some tricks that they can share with others.
There are daily posting prompts for different topics. And as expected there is some overlap with other communities like money saving tips on Saturday, and show off your home on Monday to share concept and styles to beautify youre home. It's quite an active community but so far I haven't learnt any home tips or tricks yet. I saw someone post about their ceremic ornament, and a mod said the would mute a non English/Spanish post but they never did. As a visitor to the community, I would really love to read relevant posts about what the community says they will deliver, and I hope I will come across such content in due course.

The above communities may or may not be your cup of tea, but please give some thought to those who put in the effort to contribute to the Hive eco system. You never know, with your support these communities could become big in future.
Last and not least, (shameless plug) if you made it this far, please feel free to drop by and post in some of the communities I'm involved in 😊😊😊
