Bavaria is a state in Germany. Normally the Oktoberfest should have started there last Saturday in Munich, but it came otherwise. It was cancelled because of Corona. The Oktoberfest is the world's largest public festival. It has been held annually since 1810.
Bayern ist ein Bundesland in Deutschland. Normalerweise hätte letzten Samstag dort in München das Oktoberfest starten sollen, aber es kam anders. Es ist wegen Corona abgesagt worden. Das Oktoberfest ist das weltweite größte Volksfest. Es wird seit 1810 jährlich veranstaltet.
A well-known festival tent at the Oktoberfest was the Löwenbräu festival tent. The 37 meter high Löwenbräu tower shows the visitors where to go.
Ein bekanntes Festzelt auf dem Oktoberfest war das Löwenbräu- Festzelt. Der 37 Meter hohe Löwenbräu-Turm zeigt den Besuchern wo es lang geht.
Since some politicians cancelled everything, my family members have prepared their small, traditional Bavarian breakfast at home. A typical Bavarian breakfast consists of white sausage, wheat beer and pretzels. Sweet mustard is added to the sausage. The white sausage is said to have been invented around 1850 in Munich. At that time, the sausage meat, i.e. the minced meat for the sausage, was still packed raw in the pig intestine. This was usually done in the morning, and because there were no refrigerators, the meat had to be eaten before noon because it would spoil afterwards. That is why there is still the custom to this day of eating a white sausage only before noon. A white sausage is of course "tented". Although it is also common in Bavaria to eat with a knife and fork, it is still customary to eat the white sausage by hand. Knife and fork are a "no go" in Bavaria. Comparable to Italy, where spaghetti is eaten with a fork. Using a spoon as an eating aid is frowned upon there.
Da dieses Jahr nun leider alles von unseren Politikern abgesagt wurde haben meine Familienmitglieder zuhause Ihr kleines, traditionelles, bayrisches Frühstück zubereitet. Ein typisches bayrisches Frühstück besteht aus Weißwurst, Weißbier und Brezeln. Auf die Wurst gibt man süssen Senf. Die Weißwurst soll um 1850 in München erfunden worden sein. Damals wurde das Brät, also das Hackfleisch für die Wurst, noch roh in Schweinedarm verpackt. Dies geschah in der Regel morgens, und weil es keine Kühlschränke gab, musste das Fleisch bis mittags gegessen werden, weil es danach verdorben wäre. Deshalb gibt es bis heute noch den Brauch, dass man eine Weißwurst nur bis mittags 12 Uhr ißt. Eine Weißwurst wird selbstverständlich "gezuzelt". Obwohl auch in Bayern allgemein mit Messer und Gabel gegessen wird, ist es Brauch die Weißwurst mit der Hand zu essen. Messer und Gabel sind in Bayern ein "no go". Vergleichbar mit Italien, wo man die Spaghetti auch nur mit der Gabel ißt. Einen Löffel als Esshilfe zu benutzen ist dort verpöhnt.
The beer must of course be a wheat beer. Here we have the "Hofbräuhaus Traunstein Weißbier" with an alcohol content of 5.5 percent. That's not bad, but the Munich breweries brew a special beer for the Oktoberfest that contains about 5.8 to 6.4 percent alcohol by volume.
Das Bier dazu muss natürlich ein Weißbier sein. Hier haben wir das "Hofbräuhaus Traunstein Weißbier" mit einem Alkoholgehalt von 5,5 Prozent. Das ist schon nicht schlecht, aber für das Oktoberfest brauen die Münchner Brauereien ein spezielles Bier, dass circa einem Volumenprozent an Alkohol von 5,8 bis 6,4 enthält.
