Hi everyone,
Wanted to share a post about what we’ve been doing that’s awesome, despite everything that is plastered all over the TV and internet about misery and FUD (new acronym thanks to ). Look for positivity, don’t dwell unnecessarily on negativity. Negativity will keep you susceptible to sickness and overall depression.
New Stuff
We’ve been making positives in the times that the media and powers want you to think are utterly miserable. It’s reconnected us with a lot of things we’ve taken for granted such as making our own food instead of buying it ready to eat. It obviously takes more time but the benefit to that is that you have ingredients that you want in there, not loads of preservatives and chemicals. It’s very easy to make all of these things. We plan to expand that in a couple days and make our very first batch of homemade pasta. We aren’t sure which we will make; do we make something a little challenging like ziti or do we make spaghetti? We shall see!
We’ve been making lots of great foods lately, homemade pizzas, homemade breads and the latest, homemade bread sticks! These were absolutely delicious. It’s a hell of a lot better for you than the stuff you can find at grab and go places like Little Caesar’s among others, depending on where you live.
These were such a hit with and the little one that I made them again! Devoured in less than 10 minutes. If you’re interested in the recipe, find it here.
Below is the dough once it’s done rising, spread out on the sheet pan for the bread sticks.
One of the awesome things we learned about is this company that delivers fresh, organic produce that is deemed ‘ugly’ and therefore not desirable by the big grocery chains. The company is called Misfits Market. If you want, you can use our referral code to sign up:
- Our Madness box this week! So nice getting fresh produce to our house from misfit market.
COOKWME-ME2AGS-25% off
There is currently a waitlist on it, given that finding produce is tough for grocers lately, but they are delivering to current customers.
If you are used to eating fresh food that isn’t picture perfect before it’s prepared, that’s not a hard sell at all. If you can give me fresh, discounted organic produce that isn’t visually acceptable, I will buy it for sure! This was one of the meals we made with almost everything from the box. The only thing that was purchased elsewhere was the cheese and the spices/condiments. All of it was from the box. Healthy veggie meals are important to stay well, particularly in times like this!
One thing that is apparent is nature is obviously not negatively affected by this stuff. We’ve seen all the normal little critters that start popping out around this time here in New England. This was the biggest concentration of turtles we’ve seen in our neighborhood. There were 7 of the little guys here! Enjoying the sun until a toddler throws a stick at them lol
The above mentioned food boxes give us awesome foods. I made this cute little person out of all the different foods that we got. This week we got:
- Chard
- zucchini
- cucumbers
- spaghetti squash
- pears
- celery
- granny smith apples
- potatoes
- radishes
- mushrooms
- green beans
- romanesco
- red delicious apples
- oranges
- turnip
- onions
- purple asparagus
This box has been awesome for variety. It’s sometimes a challenge to get a toddler to eat a variety on a normal day, never mind when we aren’t supposed to go out exploring farmers markets and other shops for new things.
Thankfully the weather is warming up and we’ve been venturing out a little more often than before. We’ve been visiting local farms for a few years now but have found a few more that have been fantastic! We found a local farm that has their own organic meats for sale, and for a fantastic price per pound that’s way better than the big chain stores. For many areas, local farms are absolutely the answer we need, not the big chains. Support local wherever you can!
I nearly forgot about this last picture! Pinterest is fantastic and I did this on Easter while the little one was occupied with the hubby. The look on his face was unforgettable when we went outside to do the Easter egg hunt. We put this outside our door and told him the Easter bunny hopped away but left his prints. The little white fur on the side really sold it for him, he was ecstatic! The little stink though wasn’t fooled for too long, he crouched down and said to us ‘this is just flour!’ We had to tell him he knocked over some flour on his way out to convince him. It was such a precious time, we loved it.
Thanks for checking this out! Stay well and look for positives where we you can, it will keep you sane!
