Hello Hiveians/Hivers!
This should have been posted about two weeks ago, but a lot of things happened since then. I had trouble keeping up so this post was set aside. It's now on the 12th day of quarantine here in Cebu, but I have been staying at home for 16 days already. Not that I'm complaining because there's a ton of Netflix shows to binge watch (Money Heist and Elite - these Spanish series are so good!), it's just that I really missed the idea of going out.
I am a wanderlust, in case it's not that obvious, and the idea of going out without restrictions is my thing. I missed the mountains the most, but there's no way I can do that now. It's already summer and the world-class beaches in Cebu are calling! I will definitely travel more after the quarantine, not only because my feet are itching for some good hike, but also my Kim's Quest series needs new entries. For now, I don't a choice but to resort to uploading posts that are shelved or set aside.
When this is all over, I wanted to go back to one of the best places to eat in Cebu if you're a cheese lover. I have been to this restaurant twice and I can't get enough of its cheesy goodness. I'm talking about Fat Dois!
FAT DOIS
It was March 13, the day of our flight to Bacolod, that flights from Manila, Dumaguete, and CDO were banned in Mactan-Cebu International Airport. We were separated into two groups: one with early morning flight and my group with a flight late in the afternoon. With the growing uncertainty of what would happen in the coming days, we agreed that if they would push through with their plan in the morning, we will definitely board in our flight in the afternoon. They were already in the airport when they cancelled last minute. They decided not to board with their flight, so our fate was sealed. We decided to meet in Fat Dois instead because we have our allowance for Bacolod at our disposal.
We arrived at 2 PM and I observed that the place was nearly full. The restaurant is so famous here in Cebu that during peak hours, people would queue and wait for their turn to enter the restaurant. So far, there are only two branches and the other one is located in A.S. Fortuna Street, Banilad, Mandaue City. That was the original restaurant, but it's small; it has only a few tables that people could be seen waiting outside. The second one is in Parkmall, Tipolo, Mandaue City and that's where chose to dine in because it's more spacious.
It is said that their menu is just simple classics, but with a cheesy twist.
Spicy Noodles. This is just like a normal ramyeon, but with spam and cheese that makes everything creamy and special. I love this! I love Korean food and spicy ramyeon is a staple for me. I didn't realize that adding cheese makes everything different.
Korean Rice. I can finish a bowl of this even if this is so filling. I think my Fat Dois experience wouldn't be complete without Korean rice.
Cheese in Ribs. When the cheese started to boil, you can wrap that cheesy and gooey goodness in the ribs and the cheese really goes well with the barbecue sauce. It's really good! One of the must orders in Fat Dois. Don't forget add this in your list!
Chicken and Cheese. The classic crispy fried chicken meets a gooey and cheesy cheese. The outcome is an extra goodness that will definitely makes you take another serving of Korean rice. That's what happened to me.
Cheese and Shrimps. They call this "chreemps" and it's like takoyaki.
That salty and creamy cheese accentuates those classic dishes as it was pulled and wrapped to those delicious meat.
A portable stove is available to heat the dishes so you can see the cheese sizzling in front of you. It makes the whole dining experience fun and exciting!
Everything in their menu is absolutely delicious! Since it's opening, it has created a buzz here in Cebu, but I didn't bother to check out because I was discouraged by the long queues, but since they opened a bigger branch, I finally gave in to the hype. I would say that the restaurant lived to its name! It didn't disappoint! I was really shocked that despite its fancy reputation, the price tag is not that high. It was worth all my money. Their servings are good for 3~4 people, so I think it's best if you are in a group.
I guess that's all for this post. I think I should go back to Fat Dois once this quarantine is over.
