I've been running and walking in minimalist shoes for most of the last decade. I knew I wanted to increase the amount of time I spent outside on bare feet and since it's now getting pretty hot most days here in South East Queensland, it's an easy time to do it.
I've been walking on the grass in the backyard to ground myself between clients and when I have a lot of time on the screen. I've been walking back and forth between the house and the outside bins, the pool, and even sometimes when I'm gardening. But I hadn't done much more than that.
So I thought I would go for a bushwalk this morning, alone, with my phone camera and my bare feet and see how they would handle the surfaces I walk on with shoes literally every single day.
It was tough, I won't lie. The driveways walked on, fine. The roads I crossed, easy. The grassy bits alongside the road, lovely. But the sharp rocks of various sizes were too much for my over protected feet.
A lifetime of wearing shoes will do that to us!
Still, I'm determined to spend as much of this summer with my feet as naked as the day I was born. I'll just continue to be mindful of what surfaces they need to travel over so I'm loving on my feet as they explore instead of beating them into submission to go places they may not want to go.
Stormy sky threatened to rain on me during this short walk but I still came home dry. (Above)
And as I paused out in the bush, feeling how sensitive the bottoms of my feet were with so many rocks, I stared out at the beautiful bush and saw this wallaby staring right back at me :) (Below)
