It's a windy evening here at Hervey Bay, on the Fraser Coast, 4 hours north of Brisbane (Queensland). We arrived in town just a few hours ago, got settled into our little apartment and before we knew it, it was time for our (early) dinner. We headed to the Mexican food place we'd seen on the way into town, knowing that the places on the waterfront would likely have been booked out already, plus we like that there are vegetarian options at our chosen restaurant chain.
We got takeaway and headed to the water front to eat in the car, out of the wind, but with a view of the water. I've never been here before and Brad hasn't been here for many, many years. He said it's changed quite a lot, so when a lot of time passes it's almost like it's new all over again.
After dinner we went for a walk. That's what tonight's Exhaust post is actually about, right?! :P
We walked along the Esplanade from where we knew we could get parking, to the area closed off for New Years celebrations and back. During that time we saw markets, where they're setting up for the fireworks, and hundreds and hundreds of (fairly jovial) people, including tonnes of kids. We almost walked alongside a beach at one point (I think there are a bunch of little beaches the whole way around "Hervey Bay" and while we were there we spotted four dolphins :) That was fun.
On the way home we started to see Flying Foxes leaving their roost, flying overhead in huge numbers. They added to the noise and the excitement of all the people, all the anticipation of the fireworks and all the socialising of the hundreds of rosellas also overhead at one point!
It's really rare for Brad and I to be out at night. Apart from some Christmas light chasing after dinners a few nights in the last couple of weeks, we're rarely out after sunset. We like it that way, but it is fun to occasionally do something different when there's a good enough reason to do so.
And now, some photos and I'll bid you goodnight. This lady wants to get her beauty sleep to see out, what has been, another big year.
I just finished a 3.66km walking that lasted about 0hh:53mm:5ss !
