This week, as usual, an interesting topic was brought forth for the neoxian puzzler. The question we were asked was:
Would you rather live in complete safety? Or would you rather be exposed to the elements?
I've done some thinking and here are my thoughts.
First of all What does a world with complete safety look like?
You don't need to worry about locking your doors, you don't need to be afraid to go out late at night, you don't need to worry about where you put your valuables, you can paste your keys everywhere, there is complete safety.
In a world of complete safety, there would be no worries, no fear, everyone's mind would be at rest.
Indeed complete safety would be a very nice experience, but eventually won't it start to get boring. I know It might seem like an alien opinion. I like safety, don't get me wrong, but when everything is too easy it starts to get boring.
Have you noticed that when you achieve something, It's always sweeter when you overcome obstacles to achieve it. Same can be said about security. I feel happier knowing my things are safe when I have to put effort into making them safe.
Moreover, losing things as a result of poor security teaches us lessons and makes us smarter. If you lost all your hive by sharing your keys, surely you will never make such a mistake again.
If we decide to look closely at our past, we'll realize that we've made certain mistakes that taught us the Importance of security. Mistakes that we've learnt from that have made us better human beings in general. I'm not trying to say I love insecurity, but for something to function properly there must be balance.
