I woke up that evening oblivious of my surroundings. My head hurt, and my vision was blurry.
"where am I?" I asked myself
I stood up from the dirty dust filled floor and dusted my clothes with my hand. Apparently I had fallen from the bench which was right beside me. I looked around trying to gather my surroundings. I was on a rooftop.
"How did I get here?" I wondered
My eyes caught a doorway at the other side.
"The exit" I thought as I walked towards it.
On getting there I figured out it was locked. I tried pressing the door handle but it snapped like a twig.
"Shit, It's probably rusted"
I kicked the door in frustration. It fell down flat before gliding down the staircase, making as much noise as possible. I was a bit shocked at how I was able to send it so far, but I shrugged it off.
I was able to find my way out of the building with relative ease.
As I stepped into the streets I tapped my pocket. It was then I realized I didn't have my phone. The street didn't look familiar to me. So I decided I'd ask for directions.
"Who's that weirdo?"
I heard from behind. I looked around but no one was facing my direction.
"I love her, why doesn't she love me back?"
"What am I having for dinner?"
"What will Moe think of this?"
"Garri again?"
"scoop diddy woop..."
No one seemed to be talking, but everywhere was very rowdy. I put my fingers in my ears to stop the sounds but it didn't even reduce, in fact it seemed to be getting worse. It felt like every single person was shouting in my ear at the same time. I took to my heels. Not sure where I was running just trying to get away from the loud and very random voices that filled my head.
I arrived in a deserted alleyway. For whatever reason the voices were not there. I sat down trying to think of where I may be. All of a sudden some sounds from the other side of the alley startled me. I jerked up and began straining my eyes to see. Someone was coming.
"Hey who's there?" Someone shouted. I remained silent.
"someone's definitely there."
I heard again. I lay my back on the wall, trying to stand as straight as possible so I wouldn't be seen. But it didn't work. He grabbed me by the throat.
"What are you doing here? Well it doesn't matter cause you're dead."
He began squeezing, making it harder for me to breathe.
"If Jefe finds out someone was here, he wouldn't want to work with us."
He said without moving his lips. Out of sheer desperation I gave him a jab on his neck. To my surprise he dropped down instantly. I looked at my fist, unsure whether I actually could have caused such damage.
All of a sudden it all came rushing back. I had agreed to help Pax labs with their research on human consciousness. I knew the risk involved, but I was also fascinated, so I took it. Things went awry and somehow I got the ability to hear people's thoughts by tapping into their consciousness and also enhanced strength by unlocking a new level of strength we didn't know we had. The people at Pax labs, feared I was a risk to humanity and also their reputation, so they tried killing me. That didn't work as my skin could not be pierced and I couldn't experience shock. So they decided they'd try removing my consciousness with one of their machines. But before that happened, I remember one of their researchers using chloroform to knock me out. He probably hid me on that rooftop.
I checked the pockets of my now unconscious mugger and grabbed his phone and his bike keys. Where was I going? To have my revenge on Pax labs.
After all of that I learnt to control my powers, I could even read the minds of people through the phone. I didn't want to be in the public eye, so I kept my powers a secret. But I guess my light is too bright to be hidden as I'm now one of the world's richest men.
This is a short origin story of the super hero I'd like to become, if given the opportunity. In response to the neoxian city puzzler
