Hello and welcome back to my blog.
In my previous post, I shared how I finally found a village so I can now trade with villagers and get rich. So far the game has been quite challenging. I am struggling to get good armour and advanced tools. But now since I found a village I can breed those villagers and trade with them.
I know you can trade sticks to a Fletcher and then trade with a librarian to get enchanted books. This was my goal. Well, I need a lot of wood or sticks for this. So, I wanted to create an automated bamboo farm which produces a lot of bamboo that can be converted to sticks easily and it should work automatically.
I watched a youtube tutorial as well. I needed a few resources one of them was Quartz which can be found only in the nether. This won't be easy, I said to myself but decided to go in anyways. I prepared myself, made a diamond pickaxe, and used every bit of iron to make a full armour set.
There were three ruined portals close to our house and we completed those to make a working nether portal, one of them was also lit. I went in and the portal was floating high over a large pool of lava. This must be one of the worst nether spawns.
If you look closely in the above screenshot, right next to the end of my 'spy glass' there is a mob called the Ghast. This is one of the most dangerous mobs that shoot explosive fireballs at you. Worse than creepers when you are above a lava pool.
I didn't notice it during the game and started to make a bridge with cobblestones. Suddenly a fireball hit me and it broke my stone bridge as well. I fell right into the lava pit and died almost instantly. All my items and experience points were gone. Damm those ghast!!
I knew I can't make a bridge this long without getting hit by other ghasts so I had to come up with another idea. But first I had to make some basic stone tools and secure this nether portal. I came back and quickly put blocks all around the portal so mobs can't see me. I build upward and reach the roof of the place. Going to the top was much easier and quicker and this time there were no mobs to shoot me. I quickly hid inside the Blackstone wall and started mining. It was very dark there even after placing torches.
I mined in a straight line and found gold, I tried to mine with a stone pickaxe and to my surprise, I could do it. They dropped gold nuggets. These blocks were not so rare and I found a few others generally in patches of 3.
I found the netherack blocks and some of these had Quartz as well. That was exactly what I came here to mine. I got a few and went back, can't risk losing all these items again.
I came back to the overworld and started working on my automatic farm. But I ran out of iron so I went back to mine and went into a few unexplored mines and got the iron as well. I was all set to make my farm.
I followed the tutorial but the minecart was not oscillating as it did in the tutorial so I made a loop and it was moving now.
I had to fix a few things but it was working at the end. When I checked it again the pistons were stuck and not working properly. Maybe the Redstone stuff is still in progress and it has some bugs. I also noticed that my Minecraft stopped after a while and got slammed and pushed inside another block which shouldn't have happened.
See the screenshot below, look at the area where my 'crosshair' is pointing. There is a minecart inside the dirt block. Sometimes the minecart would stop at the corners as well.
These issues made me give up on my farm. All that effort and for nothing...lol. Story of my life!
Anyways, I found two saddles in the village earlier and there were a lot of horses around my house so I picked one and after some struggle to put a saddle on it I managed to do it somehow and riding a horse is fun. They are way faster than walking.
I went back into the nether and found some new biomes who were recently added as a new mod. I have never seen the nether look this beautiful. I have yet to explore them but from a far it looks quite interesting. Here is a sneak peak.
