The winners
π₯ 1st place:
- Un cΓ‘lido atardecer marino ππ - 7 pts - prize: 20% of the post's earnings + 300 Ecency Points

This artwork beautifully captures a serene maritime sunset through a clever mixed-media approach, blending the rich texture of oil pastels with the precision of colored pencils. The artist effectively uses a warm palette of yellows, oranges, and reds to create a "sepia-toned" atmosphere that feels both nostalgic and deeply relaxing. Particularly impressive is the use of backlighting; the stark black silhouette of the solitary boat and the nearest mountain provides a bold contrast against the glowing sky, while the nuanced shading on the distant peak successfully mimics the play of golden hour light. By layering colored pencils over a single shade of pastel, the artist achieves a naturalistic gradient in the sky and water that invites the viewer to experience the calm, introspective beauty of a day well done.
π₯ 2nd place:
- Mi querida tΓa Miriam. My dear aunt Miriam (Eng/Esp)βοΈ - 6 pts - prize: 15% of the post's earnings + 200 Ecency Points

This heartfelt tribute to the artist's aunt, Miriam, stands out as a masterful example of traditional graphite portraiture that successfully balances technical skill with deep emotional resonance. Using a methodical approach involving a grid for accuracy and varying pencil grades like HB, 2B, and 5B, the artist achieves a realistic skin texture by blending mid-tonal values with a dry brush. The work effectively utilizes chiaroscuro to define the facial features and hair, while the atmospheric, softly-blended background prevents the image from appearing flat. Beyond the technical execution, the piece serves as a poignant memorial, honoring a woman whose life was marked by kindness, the challenges of blindness, and the unfortunate distance imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic. The resulting portrait is not just a study in tonal values and subtle folds in clothing, but a deeply personal "homenaje" that captures the dignity and memory of a beloved family member.
π₯ 3rd place:
- Portrait of Spartan - 5 pts - prize: 15% of the post's earnings + 100 Ecency Points

This striking portrait of a Spartan warrior successfully translates the concepts of discipline, courage, and pride into a bold, high-contrast illustration. The artist employs heavy hatching and cross-hatching to define the metallic texture of the helmet and the muscular form of the chest armor, creating a sense of rugged strength. A standout feature is the tall, proud crest of the helmet, which serves as a powerful symbol of leadership and honor. While the helmet obscures most of the face, the "sharp eyes" remain visible, imbuing the warrior with a mysterious and fearless gaze that captures the very spirit of Sparta. By draping a cloak across the shoulder to add a touch of nobility, the artist elevates the piece from a simple soldier's drawing to a resonant portrait of a legendary warrior ready for battle.
Congratulations to the winners! π
