Perimeter Wall Beam
There is no doubt that most of the construction of my house has already been completed, but there are still important elements that I must pay close attention to. And this is how the perimeter wall gradually went from being a dream to becoming a project and now a future reality. This element is necessary to ensure greater security in my environment and, at the same time, to proceed with the leveling of the land and the development of appropriate landscaping.

Viga del Muro Perimetral
No cabe la menor duda de que la mayor parte de la construcción de mi casa ya fue ejecutada, pero aún quedan elementos importantes a los cuales debo prestarle mucha atención. Y es de esta manera como el muro perimetral poco a poco pasaba de ser un sueño para convertirse en un proyecto y hoy en día en una futura realidad. Ya que es necesario contar con este elemento, para de esta forma poder garantizar mayor seguridad en mi entorno y al mismo tiempo proceder con los trabajos de nivelación del terreno y el desarrollo de un paisajismo adecuado.

Thanks to constant work and a focused mind, I managed to buy the materials needed to lay the foundations for the columns and the subsequent drag beam. This task required a full truckload of fill, 10 42-kg bags of cement, 12 12-meter three-eighths rebar rods, 12 6-meter 8-millimeter rebar rods, and a lot of wire.
Gracias a un trabajo constante y a una mente centrada, logré ir comprando los materiales necesarios para realizar las fundaciones de las columnas y la posterior viga de arrastre. Para esta misión hizo falta un camión completo de relleno, 10 sacos de cemento de 42 kg, 12 cabillas de tres octavos de 12 metros, 12 cabillas de 8 milímetros de 6 y bastante alambre.
The work began with the manufacture of the hooks, which I learned to make efficiently and very quickly, and then I assembled the iron structure, which had to be divided into four parts: two 10-meter sections and one 12-meter section plus 8 meters, which would allow me to enclose my entire property, considering that it is 10 meters wide by 20 meters deep and there is already a perimeter wall on the left side, which I will only have to continue building in the future.
El trabajo inició con la elaboración de los ganchos, los cuales aprendí a realizar de manera eficiente y muy rápida, para luego ir armando la estructura de hierro, la cual hubo que dividir en 4 partes, dos tramos de 10 metros y un tramo de 12 metros más 8 metros, lo cual me permitiría encerrar la totalidad de mi terreno, teniendo en cuenta que el mismo mide 10 metros de ancho por 20 metros de profundidad y del lado izquierdo ya se encuentra una pared perimetral, la cual en un futuro solo tengo que seguir alzando.
This work took a month to complete, bearing in mind that the contractor only came to work on weekends, as that was when I could help him and the only time he was available. So it was an arrangement that benefited both of us, and I have no complaints. Little by little, the holes for each column were dug, and then a bundle of three steel rods tied together in a triangle shape was placed in each hole, at a depth of approximately 80 centimeters.
Este es un trabajo que se llevó a cabo durante un mes, teniendo en cuenta que el maestro de obras contratado venía a trabajar solo los fines de semana, ya que es en ese momento en donde yo le podía ayudar y era el único tiempo que él tenía disponible, así que se trató de un trato en donde ambos salíamos beneficiados y del cual no tengo nada de que quejarme. Poco a poco se fueron haciendo los huecos correspondientes a cada columna, posteriormente se sembraría un mechón compuesto por tres cabillas en forma de triángulo debidamente amarradas y con una profundidad de aproximadamente 80 centímetros.
Each bundle was filled with cement, and to improve stability and structural strength, they used quite a few stones, taking into account that the leg of the bundle is open in several directions. The stones, exerting their natural weight, help to keep the element from moving and at the same time increase its resistance and stability.
Cada mechón se iba rellenando de cemento y para mejorar la estabilidad y la fortaleza estructural, tocaron bastantes piedras, teniendo en cuenta que la pata del mismo se encuentra abierta en varias direcciones, las piedras ejerciendo su peso natural ayudan a que el elemento no se mueva y al mismo tiempo gane en resistencia y estabilidad.
Next, the trenches for the metal structures were dug. Here we encountered quite uneven ground, but fortunately we were faced with a surface where digging was not too difficult, and with the help of a level we managed to create a straight channel, ideal for starting to formwork.
Seguidamente, se comenzaban a abrir las zanjas correspondientes a las estructuras metálicas, es aquí en donde nos encontramos con un terreno bastante irregular, pero afortunadamente nos paramos frente a una superficie en donde cavar no es tan complicado y logramos con la ayuda del nivel lograr una canal derecha, e ideal para comenzar a encofrar.
Yes, we began by placing wooden boards on either side of the metal structure already installed in the trenches, thus ensuring that the subsequent pouring of concrete would be done efficiently and the result would be excellent.

Preparing the concrete was an arduous and quite exhausting task, where it was decided to mix the cement with sand rich in stones. The idea was to create a homogeneous and at the same time resistant material. It is important to note that in the future this beam will be the bottom part of a wall that will possibly reach 3 meters in height.
Preparar el concreto fue una tarea ardua y bastante agotadora, en donde se decidió mezclar el cemento con una arena rica en piedras. La idea era generar un material homogéneo y al mismo tiempo resistente. Es importante resaltar que en un futuro esta viga será la parte inferior de una pared que posiblemente llegue a los 3 metros de altura.
The concrete was poured in sections, but to ensure greater effectiveness, a large number of stones were placed at the bottom of the metal structure, then the concrete was poured and left to dry for 24 hours. At this point, it is important to note that the master craftsman with a trowel ensured that the finishes were smooth and aesthetically pleasing, so that in the future, when the blocks begin to be attached, the work will be much easier and more comfortable.
El vaciado de concreto se realizó por secciones, pero para asegurarnos una mayor efectividad se colocaron bastantes piedras en la parte inferior de la estructura metálica, luego se colocó el concreto y se dejó secar por durante 24 horas. En este punto es importante resaltar que el maestro con palustre se encargó de que los acabados fueran lisos y estéticamente muy agradables, para así en un futuro, cuando se comiencen a pegar los bloques, el trabajo sea mucho más fácil y cómodo.
The result is an aesthetically pleasing and very resistant beam, which is built to support the weight of the perimeter walls. The work was arduous, but the objective was achieved, which was to build a very strong structure with quality materials. Now we must continue working on the future project, which consists of building the much-needed perimeter wall.
El resultado es una viga estéticamente agradable y muy resistente, la cual está construida para soportar el peso de las paredes perimetrales. El trabajo fue arduo, pero se logró el objetivo planteado, el cual era la elaboración de una estructura muy fuerte, y con materiales de calidad. Ahora queda seguir trabajando en función del proyecto futuro, el cual consiste en hacer realidad ese muro perimetral que tanto hace falta.
