Don Patricio left his house early in the morning ready to change his present. He had prepared his own breakfast, the same as always: arepas with scrambled eggs, coffee and fruit juice. He prepared the eggs with tomato and onion, a pinch of pepper, salt and oil. He used to make two breakfasts, but after the death of his wife Ana, 10 years later, he only made one.
He was perfectly dressed, with his light shirt and comfortable pants. There was nothing about Patricio, a mature man, that spoke of shortcomings and weaknesses. With slow but sure steps, he walked toward the offices of the local newspaper to place an ad.
The watchman, who assumed that Patricio was an important man, told him where to go. As he entered the office, a girl in her 20's answered his questions and asked him what he wanted:
_I want an ad to go out requesting a great love. The girl looked him up and down: "Men, after they reach a certain age, are more ridiculous", he thought, "I'm sure he wants a curvy young girl that he can dazzle with his money, blonde or redheaded, dumb, that maybe looks like his daughter" - he thought, but as he was not there to give his opinion or to contradict people, after charging, he took pencil and paper, and began to write down what the ad should contain.
Please write it down," said Don Patricio:
"A 70-year-old man wants a companion to take a walk in the evenings, watch TV or read the newspaper, who gives good night and good morning kisses, who wants to talk and listen, even if they are inconsequential things; but who also doesn't mind the silence, that one that appears from time to time and needs no justification. A love that laughs, that is perfect for my arms, for my shoulders, for my cheeks. A love that likes to receive flowers, compliments, nice words. A love that wants to share breakfast with me, while we tell each other our dreams and nightmares. A love that is eternal or that lasts the last years of my life. Refrain, women eager to experiment: I'm over my time of laboratory and nonsense."
