Now I come back to give you my opinion about «The Ballad of Never After», the second part of this trilogy. The protagonists joined in a great adventure full of magic to fulfill a prophecy, where Evangeline was the key to open an ancient portal that hid the way to save the loved ones of both. It is a novel that makes you wonder if destiny works on its own, or if we are the ones who create it. Ideal for fantasy lovers who believe in the concept of true love, even when these lovers cannot be together.
Hace pocos días les compartí mi opinión acerca de «Érase una vez un corazón roto» de Stephanie Garber, un libro de fantasía donde los cuentos de hadas se convierten en una trágica realidad🥀 El primer amor de Evangeline Fox se iba a casar con otra mujer, debido a que se encontraba bajo los efectos de un hechizo de amor; la protagonista llena de dolor e impotencia le rezó al Príncipe de Corazones (Jacks), un ser de gran poder que la ayudaría a sanar su corazón roto. Pero debes dar para recibir, ningún favor es completamente gratis.
Ahora vuelvo a pasar por acá para darles mi opinión sobre «La Balada de Nunca Jamás», la segunda parte de esta trilogía. Los protagonistas se unieron en una gran aventura llena de magia para cumplir con una profecía, donde Evangeline era la clave para abrir un antiguo portal que escondía la forma de salvar a los seres queridos de ambos. Es una novela que te hace pensar si el destino trabaja por su cuenta, o somos nosotros quiénes lo vamos creando. Ideal para los amantes de la fantasía, que creen en el concepto del amor verdadero, incluso cuando estos amantes no puedan estar juntos.

I think the first book was good to give you an introduction to the story, quite direct in the relevant facts of the plot, and significant elements are mentioned. Which is why with this second book, Garber had more freedom to narrate the plot. Perhaps that is why I found it a bit slower than the first, however, it was less cliché. There were more plot twists that leave you surprised, especially at the end.
Something that I find comical is that in both endings I have discovered alone that crucial fact that is hidden and only revealed to you at the end, but I admit that I like the way this author writes. There were many clues to that unexpected final event, and when it comes to a fantasy book my head works like Evangeline's, I think anything is possible, therefore, my crazy theories may turn out to be true. This writer possesses precision and passion; her creativity, imagination, and intelligence allow you to feel like you are in the book. The descriptions here are detailed, but not heavy, and you manage to create in your mind all the scenarios mentioned.

Creo que el primer libro fue bueno para darle una introducción a la historia, bastante directo en los hechos relevantes de la trama, y se mencionan los elementos significativos. Por lo cual, con este segundo libro Garber tenía más libertad para narrar la trama. Quizás ese sea el motivo de que me pareció un poco más lento que el primero, sin embargo, fue menos cliché. Hubo más giros de trama que te dejan sorprendidos, especialmente al final.
Algo que me parece cómico es que en ambos finales he descubierto solita ese hecho crucial que está escondido y solo te lo revelan al final, pero admito que me gusta la manera en que escribe esta autora. Había muchas pistas de ese suceso final inesperado, y cuando se trata de un libro de fantasía mi cabeza funciona como la de Evangeline, creo que todo es posible, por lo tanto, mis locas teorías pueden resultar ser ciertas. Esta escritora posee precisión y pasión; su creatividad, imaginación e inteligencia permite que sientas que estás en el libro. Las descripciones acá son detalladas, pero no pesadas, y logras crear en tu mente todos los escenarios mencionados.
Garber tells us that even if a story is labeled «a fairy tale», it doesn't necessarily mean it's a happy one, such as the oft-mentioned: “The Ballad of the Archer and the Fox”, which says that a young archer was hired to slay a mischievous fox, but in his work he learned that said fox was actually a young girl, with whom he fell madly in love; the men who had hired him knew that detail about the girl and did not care, when the Archer refused to continue they cursed him that he would devote himself to hunting down that fox, regardless of his feelings. It is Evangeline's favorite story, but because the stories of the Great North have a curse that does not allow them to be told in full or with the truth, she never knew the ending... until now.
But, without a doubt, the place that caught my attention the most was “The Hollow”, Jacks' refuge, a completely fantastic house, and maybe not all that glitters is gold, but what a delight it would be to live there and ignore the wretched reality outside.
Garber nos dice que aunque una historia esté catalogada como «un cuento de hadas», no necesariamente signifique sea un cuento feliz, como la tan mencionada: "La balada del Arquero y el Zorro", que dice que un joven arquero fue contratado para asesinar a un zorro travieso, pero en su labor se enteró de que dicho zorro en realidad era una chica joven, de la cual se enamoró perdidamente; los hombres que lo habían contratado conocían ese detalle sobre la chica y no les importó, cuando el Arquero se negó a continuar ellos lo maldijeron a que se dedicaría a darle caza a ese zorro, sin importar sus sentimientos. Es la historia favorita de Evangeline, pero debido a que las historias del Gran Norte tienen una maldición que nos les permite ser contadas por completo o con la verdad, nunca supo el final… hasta ahora.
Pero, sin duda, el lugar que más llamó mi atención fue ”La Madriguera”, el refugio de Jacks, una casa completamente fantástica, y quizás no todo lo que brille es oro, pero qué delicia sería vivir allí e ignorar la desgraciada realidad que hay afuera.
🌹A romance that looks impossible🌹
Most of us dream of a happy ending in our lives, a passionate and energizing romance. Both protagonists dream of this, but they are probably looking for it in the wrong people. It's complicated, that internal battle between mind and heart, and it's extremely difficult when you love someone you can't have.
In this book we learn more about Jacks story, and as I mentioned in the previous review, he is a Fate, a powerful being with a curse that will only be broken when he finds his true love, unfortunately this desire to find his right girl will make him fall in love with several, and his same curse will make them die with just one kiss if they are not the girl of the prophecy. In the first book, he mentions that he found her, and she stabbed him in the heart. Even so, he still has a slim hope of being with her, because she is supposed to be the one according to the prophecy.
I found his story devastating. He finds his ideal person, but she rejects him and hurts him, and he can't fall in love with another because when he kisses her, they will die. Imagine having that desire to love and be loved, and not being able to find someone. Here we understand his need to open that portal, and I really don't judge him.
🌹Un romance que luce imposible🌹
La mayoría de nosotros sueña con un final feliz en sus vidas, un romance apasionado y que nos dé energía. Ambos protagonistas sueñan con esto, pero probablemente lo están buscando en las personas equivocadas. Es complicada esa batalla interna entre la mente y corazón, y es extremadamente difícil cuando amas a alguien que no puedes tener.
En este libro conocemos más acerca de la historia de Jacks, y como mencioné en la reseña anterior, él es un Destino, un ser poderoso con una maldición que solo se romperá cuando él encuentre a su verdadero amor, lamentablemente este deseo de encontrar a su chica indicada lo hará enamorarse de varias, y su misma maldición hará que mueran con solo un beso si no son la chica de la profecía. En el primer libro él menciona que la encontró, y ella lo apuñaló en el corazón. Aun así, todavía tiene una mínima esperanza de estar con ella, porque se supone que es la indicada según la profecía.
Me pareció devastadora su historia. Él encuentra a su persona ideal, pero ella lo rechaza y le hace daño, y no puede enamorarse de otra porque cuando la bese morirá. Imagina tener ese deseo de amar y ser amado, y no poder encontrar a alguien. Aquí entendemos su necesidad de abrir ese portal, y realmente no lo juzgo.
On the other hand, Evangeline is that die-hard romantic who believes in love, and dreams of finding a great romance. She clings to her beliefs, and the search for a “happily ever after” is the main reason for her battle, even if that now is just being alive and well.
Is it possible that in our lives there are several people who are “the one” for us, and it is we who decide, not fate, who will be our true love? According to Evangeline, there are many people with great potential to be a great love, a beautiful story, but you choose which of those stories you decide to live.
And, honestly, they're both looking in the wrong place. They're clinging to the idea that seems “easier,” but just because it's easy doesn't mean it's right. Evangeline with Apollo, and Jacks with the prophecy girl, might be a comfortable life, but really, are we going to live just for comfort, not fully enjoying our days with someone who loves us just the way we are?
Por otro lado, Evangeline es esa romántica empedernida que cree en el amor, y sueña con encontrar un gran romance. Se aferra a sus creencias, y la búsqueda de un “felices para siempre” es el principal motivo de su batalla, aunque eso ahora solo sea estar viva y tranquila.
¿Es posible que en nuestras vidas existan varias personas “indicadas” para nosotros? ¿Y somos nosotros quiénes decidimos, y no el destino, los que serán nuestro amor verdadero? Según Evangeline, hay muchas personas con gran potencial de ser un gran amor, una hermosa historia, pero tú escoges cuál de esas historias decides vivir.
Y, sinceramente, ambos están buscando en el lugar equivocado. Se están aferrando a la idea que parece más “fácil”, pero que sea sencillo no significa que sea lo correcto. Evangeline con Apollo, y Jacks con la chica de la profecía, podría ser una vida cómoda, pero, ¿realmente, vamos a vivir solo por comodidad, sin disfrutar plenamente de nuestros días con alguien que nos ama tal cual somos?
Los finales felices pueden atraparse, pero es difícil retenerlos.
I think I liked the plot of the first book better, but here I connected more deeply with all the characters. Evangeline is still one of those protagonists who makes more drama than necessary (a detail that bothers me), although now her decisions didn't seem as heavy as before. Another thing I liked is that the backstory of the plot, of the Great North, was clarified, because before it was confusing and overwhelming information, but now it all makes sense.
It is still a trilogy that I recommend to lovers of fantasy literature, from the beginning to the end everything is magical, there comes a point where you think that if you make a wish while reading it will come true. It's nice, and a good choice if you want to read something different.
Creo que me gustó más la trama del primer libro, pero acá conecté a más profundidad con todos los personajes. Evangeline sigue siendo de esas protagonistas que hacen más drama del necesario (detalle que me molesta), aunque ahora sus decisiones no me parecieron tan pesadas como antes. Otra cosa que me gustó es que se aclaró la historia de la trama, del Gran Norte, porque antes era información confusa y abrumadora, pero ahora todo tiene sentido.
Sigue siendo una trilogía que recomiendo a los amantes de la literatura de fantasía, desde el principio hasta el final todo es mágico, llega un punto en que crees que si pides un deseo mientras lees se te hará realidad. Es bonito, y buena opción si quieres leer algo diferente.
Y como dijo Evangeline: "Encontrar el amor verdadero y perderlo, y aun así tener un rayito de esperanza de recuperarlo, es un tipo de tortura realmente distinto"
