Saturday Savers Club
This is the last week of Saturday Savers Club for 2025 and in an hour I'll be wrapping up the votes for the Savers for the Year Award and running the prize draw for 500 HIVE for two classes of Savers.
It's also the last week of the Saturday Savers Club which I've run every week for the past five years on the account. Beginning January 2021, I started the Penny a Day Challenge, depositing HIVE every week in the
account.
For anyone who followed the Challenge in past years they would have become a Minnow by the end of it. This year, inflation has lifted the Minnow threshold just outside the results from the Challenge alone - a little posting and curation would have got them there though.
Lots of people have joined us over the past few years. This post has all the things we did and all the hot savings tips we collected in the first year.
In 2022, saved for a keyboard and
for a trip to a distant province. In 2023,
saved for school fees and
's savings helped her to move house.
It's been a lot of fun and I've enjoyed it.
I retired this year and I've got other plans for 2026, so it's time to say good-bye to Saturday Savers Club, and thank everyone for taking part and wish them well for the future.
I'll finish off with my progress over the past year, glad that I was able to hit my savings goals for 2025.
2025 Year End Summary
Primary Savings Goal
SPI: A growth and investment token set up on the UK Investment Club model, SPI has grown from an initial equivalent fund of 13,000 HIVE to 590,000 HIVE this week. (Last quarter results).
I set a plan at the beginning of the year to hold 15% of the fund, with a 2025 year end target of 13%, and the remainder by 2026 year end. With the low prices of HIVE, I was able to complete my plan in this year. SPI is asset-backed and has a 95% buyback guarantee.
Secondary Savings Goal
EDSI: A savings and income token, each EDSI issued is backed by one HIVE powered up in the account. I set a plan at the beginning of 2024 to hold 2.5% of the fund by the time all 500,000 EDSI are issued.
This year, my secondary savings goal was to make up the shortfall between the EDSIs that would be issued through the miners I hold (EDSM and EDSMM) and my plan. I covered the shortfall somewhere around September, again, I guess, due to the falling price of HIVE.
HP Plan
- Original plan: retain 100,000 HP stake, sell 40,000 HIVE kitty to recover investment and hold remainder in HBD, aiming for 120,000 HP and 45,000 HBD by 2025 year end.
- Actual: market conditions prevented trading; pivoted to accumulation and compounding, with 191,000 HP, 1,500 HIVE and no HBD by 2025 year end.
- 15,000 HIVE deployed to achieve SPI goal early.
- 18,270 HP invested in three niche dolphin accounts.
- 600 HIVE in the Penny a Day Challenge (Saturday Savers Club).
I was slightly light-headed when I realised that the total, plus the SPI and EDSI investments were equivalent to 305,787 HIVE.
Opportunities Realized
- LEO re-launch and consequent price increase: stake sold to fund other projects. This helped to fund the three niche dolphin accounts.
- Completion of two-year XV investment token with 3.6× HIVE return.
- Low HIVE price allowed favourable swaps with HBD.
Hit or Miss?
- Still wonder if Splinterlands will make it and
- if Listnerds will ever be resurrected and
- whether I can recover my costs?
Marketing / Ecosystem Development
- Funded three niche dolphin accounts:
(art portfolio),
(handwritten practice),
(lifestyle medicine).
- Promotional support includes material A6 postcards and removable vinyl stickers with QR codes together with in person activities and events.
Highlights
- Creative Coffee Mornings - way back at the beginning of the year a Hive friend suggested an online coffee morning every four weeks. This has been great!
- Knit Happens - an online knitting group on the gobrunch.com platform. This has also been great!
- Finally getting my head around the DHF: "If we're not there to tell our own story, someone else will tell it...not the way we'd have it told".
- Discovering Hive Tools, especially Post Search. (Explainer).
- @Snapie - Short form on the go content.
