Hello plant based foodies, wherever you are in the world!
Today is a very special day, because we are celebrating, today is the World Vegan Day. Perhaps many of you know this event, perhaps others do not, in any case we wanted to make this brief commemorative post, in order to enhance this philosophy of life, which for us is the right one, not wanting to say that we have the whole truth, no, because we believe that every human being must make important life decisions, based on their own pace and their own motivations, and this should be respected. With this to point out that being vegan or not, is a unique, personal and intimate process, and that the transition to veganism is particular to each person and also depends on their life circumstances.
Let's make a little history about this special day. Let's start by defining what it is to be vegan, being able to say that it is a way or philosophy of life, in which we consider animals as equal beings, sentient, deserving of respect and love, so we do not consume or use any product or input that is of animal origin, nor support any practice that involves harm or disrespect to any animal. On the other hand, we try that our habits are respectful with the environment, and do not leave a significant footprint on it, so our behavior tries to be as conscious and harmonious as possible with nature.
If we go to the roots of the term vegan, it is a relatively young word, because it was created in 1944, specifically in the United Kingdom, where there was a growing interest in shaping and defining the lifestyle in which it was excluded. the use of any animal product. This term was created by Donald Watson and Elsie Shrigley, founder and co-founder, (respectively), of The Vegan Society, thus differentiating themselves from vegetarians (the Vegetarian Society already existed, since 1847). Below we share the link so you can enter The Vegan Society.
Since its foundation, Donald Watson and all the members of The Vegan Society have been dedicated to spreading the vegan philosophy, and Watson even published a quarterly newsletter for a long time, where information and news on the subject were published. Now, November 1 of each year was selected as the World Vegan Day, starting in 1994, by the president who was then in charge of The Vegan Society, Louise Wallis, and she established this day in commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the Society, because although they knew the year of its foundation, they did not know the exact date or day. Below we quote the words of Wallis herself, who expressed the following regarding the election of November 1 for the celebration of this event:
(Louise Wallis)
And it was a great choice, since from that year in many parts of the world, the entire month of November is dedicated to carrying out activities for the dissemination and strengthening of the vegan lifestyle.
So the Plant Power (Vegan) community joins this celebration, and throughout November 2022, we will be doing specific activities in favor of spreading the vegan philosophy. We would like to know through a comment, your opinion regarding this event and if you already knew of its existence. We read you!
