You know what they say, lead by example, not by words. So I should do the same in this small community of ours to show by example that a book collection can be put in order, even though until a few hours ago these books were quite rebellious. They didn't want to be in their place. I almost chased them around the house; some were hiding in boxes in the storage room, others were sleeping in the piano room, and some books from this furniture even argued with me. I know, I neglected them, that is a fact; however, these books want me to read them, to pay attention to them, to rearrange them in a different order from time to time, or at least to wipe the dust off them if nothing else. I am a terrible administrator, I know... I promised to bring my collection two weeks ago, and I am only now putting it into practice.
If I say I don't like my bookcase, you won't take me seriously. You will think it is just an excuse for procrastination, but there is some truth to it. Anyway, the collection of books needs to arrive with or without a nice (nicer) bookcase. ๐ (The thing is that this is a part of the display case that we took apart when we moved in. The lower part is on the other wall and holds some ornaments and the TV. It had a glass part too, which is now in another corner with sets of glasses and cups, and this part is now playing the role of a bookshelf.)
Do you recognise a book (or two) from your collection, ?
Ok, here is a hint:
I saw in your post today these two books, so we literally share tastes. ๐
If we are already seeing The Little Prince, this is a page that is dear to me, because of the drawing haha. However, this is a book we can read over and over again, regardless of our age or how many times we have read it already.
In the upper shelves, there are many books that I "inherited" with the apartment we bought, although there is a whole section of those books that were mine from before. We had more books that I just gave away before we moved as I was so tired already from packing the boxes...๐ฌ but I brought all those that are important to me.
This shiny vintage furniture even has a part which is usually closed, like a bar for hiding liquor bottles, but I promise, I keep just books here ๐. The truth is that the liquor bottles have now another place, in a different cupboard ๐ฅ.
Here we can find some dictionaries, children's books, also a collection of mini books, books that my son used in school, like physics, chemistry, literature and still haven't sold (as he sold many of his books or exchanged them for other books he would need in the next school year), several books from Alberto Vรกzquez-Figueroa and a collection of "The doctor advises" books. I am wondering, could I play being a doctor if I have these books? ๐
The last section of this piece of furniture, which is volunteering to be my bookshelf, showcases three collections of encyclopedias and other books that I found in the apartment, more children's books that belonged to my son, and the highlight is my Jerusalem Bible.
I have had it since I was a student... it is an important and dear book to me also because of the connection to the Franciscan people who surrounded me during that period of my life. I brought it to Spain, although it is quite a heavy one.
In the same way, I brought the books from my childhood to Spain. They are written in Hungarian (my mother tongue) and although they contain stories and poems for young children, they are not just picture books. There was a lot of text to read here. ๐ I have more, but just three made it into the photo.
I guess my mother used to read these stories and poems to me, as for a little one, it is easier to listen to the voice than to read and fully understand. Also, the impact of the written texts that are performed is stronger. A few weeks ago, I saw a young poetess who performs her works. It is just in Spanish, so I guess it is not interesting for those who don't understand this language, but I wanted to share it anyway as there is so much rage in the world but what everyone needs is peace. However, we are in a book collection post, so we are back to reading and seeing what else is hiding in these shelves.
I don't need to tag the Hiver who would definitely love this book about Egypt. ๐
Pupiatlas is a book my son got from a friend of ours for one of his birthdays when he was small. He didn't include this book in his own little library, but I do keep it. It is indeed a nice educational book about Spain.
Another book my son got when he was small, from one of my adult students, is a beautiful Harry Potter book with pretty cool illustrations.
He has a bookshelf in his room, although not many books are on it right now. Those that he uses and reads more are with him in the city where he studies.
I will have to skip many books I would like to highlight as the post is getting a bit long haha, however, I will show the three latest books I read since last summer (just three books since then? ๐ฐ.. I know...๐ค)
| La quinta mujer | Galileo | La cena secreta |
But I did start a few other ones as well that I left behind in the meantime. ๐
As an excuse... no, no excuses! And I already have another book that I started to read, although I don't suffer from a terrible stage fright, it's interesting to learn how to control our performances when on stage or when we face some difficulties.
Soooo, what about you? Do you guys have a book collection that you would like to share for this month's theme in the Hive Collectors Community? ๐
