Got everything home in one piece! (except that one egg ...)
We don't (want to) get out of the valley (our lovely temporary home) very often, but today it was time for our monthly shopping mission.
And that's always a bit of an adventure ^^
We don't have a car right now, and there's no way for a car to get down here (or out), anyway at this time of year. So we walk up to the nearest road, about 20 minutes away, where we get picked up by a friend and his Landrover, who kindly drives us to the next town once a month.
We really try to only go shopping every four weeks, when we can combine the trip with paying the electricity bill.
So as you can imagine, we buy a lot of stuff every time!
But at the same time we can't buy too much, because we have to carry it all the way back to the house in the valley ^^
We buy most of our food on the local market, veggies, fruits, and this time we found some really tasty pickled peppers, as well as some great homemade wine :-)
Coming from Germany I was not used to buying my food on the market. There are markets in Germany, but they are much more expensive than the supermarkets, and I never could afford buying there.
But here in the Bulgarian villages it's just normal, and quite cheap.
And so much more fun than going to the supermarket!
The food is much better, mostly locally grown, I think, and it's so much more satisfying to give my money to real people, not to some huge dubious company. The merchants are all very friendly to us, and although we can't really talk, we have some nice little conversations sometimes, speaking with hands and feet :-)
A great experience, that I enjoy a lot every time. I'm definitely gonna miss that, should I ever go back to Germany.
