The year came to an end and a new one has begun. I spent the New Year’s Eve at a friends house 🏠. They actually just moved in after building their home and it was more like a New Years / home warming party. The good thing about this couple regarding home building, it’s in the husband’s line of work, so he did a lot of things hands on.
The home owner and his sidekick went to a fish market and fishing in a not so nearby seaside village. They literally got sushi as fresh as it can be. I must admit, when sushi is super fresh, I think its extremely delicious, even though I’m not a huge sushi fan.
We literally had all the creatures in the ocean a sushi lover would want: Crab, shrimp, octopus, salmon, tuna, flatfish and some other shit I can’t even remember.
There were a few pork dishes but meh, when the sushi is fresh, the meat gets pushed to the side. Unless it’s cooked Jamaican style 😋.
Do I miss Jamaican Food during the holidays?
Of course I do. The only thing Jamaican I had all season was Jerk chicken. Would be awesome to have some oxtail and rice peas, roast ham, Mac & cheese, curry goat or chicken and of course the good ole Jamaican fruit cake. But I have learnt to appreciate what’s around and I’m not much of a chef these days. I’m more the grill master. ( I need to teach my wife how to cook more Jamaican food).
What Sushi I like the best
Well, the tuna 🍣, it is the pinnacle of the delicacy. And even though I butter-on-the-wasabi, I have acquired a strong liking for fresh Maguro. Next I’d say is eel slightly grilled, and salon would be the third.
What was the most delicious dish of the night?
The fried octopus, it is the only fried food you will see in the pics. This was also super fresh. The flat fish was the main dish as they caught that one themselves but its not really my thing. One more sushi post for the records, now I can do without it for a few weeks.
