The past year it's been one full of events and emotions of all kind. One that started with lots of work and ended the same. One that started with a bit of hope, and ended up with lots of it.
While a certain future is not available anymore, a thing that I think will never miss from anyone's heart is nothing else, but, hope. Which is also the theme I picked for today's batch of street art that I hunted in my town, finding elements of hope through each of the five selections I made even if it comes in different forms and expressions.
This post is also going to take part in CCC's Street Art Contest #229!
The first, and possibly one of the best graffiti Sibiu is proud to shelter came when everyone least expected it, also bringing a big and important award with it, just a few days after the mural was completed. The story behind this one reminds of the hopeless people who get in the rain to cry since no one really could figure that happening anyway, but where, in the mind of the artist this only leads to a large river which fulfils dreams with life.
Name: The Roar of the Storm (2023)
Artists: Julian Cruz
Location: Strada Fântânele 1, Sibiu 557260, Romania
One of the most recent street arts added to town creates a new parallel between generations where a grandpa sits next to his niece with some large VR headsets that even if they brings lots of possibilities both in real life and in the virtual one, the fundamental connections and what one learns while being a kid still remain the most essential and important ones.
Name: Reflection(2024)
Artists: ATOMA
Location: Bulevardul General Vasile Milea nr. 22, Sibiu 557260, Romania
Next up, I have added a graffiti which proves the contrary to hope through its title (Hopeless) creating a reflection over the relationship between a human being and its technology that brings with it lots of risks and possible addiction. Furthermore, this piece of art has been added to the facade of a school with the purpose of raising a warning sign about these aspects.
Name: Hopeless (2017)
Artists: URKA
Location: Colegiul National Pedagogic Andrei Saguna, Sibiu, Romania
Still within the same school, there has been added another graffiti that brings both childhood and hope together making us never forther about the emotions we had as a kid and to explore the freedom offered by life with a smile on our face but still aware of the possible risks. The bird is meant to show both freedom and hope and to never stop flying high on our path in life.
Name: Joy (2017)
Artists: ORTAKU
Location: Colegiul National Pedagogic Andrei Saguna, Sibiu, Romania
Last but not least, we have a sad but true comparison between urban life and how quickly we harm and ruin nature and the planet overall. If people don't start realizing how much we build and how much we sacrifice at the same time, we will soon have trees and animals gone, which obviously will lead to a dead population that created the whole tragedy on its own.
Name: Equilibrium (2021)
Artists: V LIGHT CREW
Location: Str. Metalurgiștilor, Sibiu, România
