What you see here is 14 liters of booz, bought on my recent cruise holiday. And just to be clear, most of this isn't my (hubby's) hoard!! Only two of them belong to us, the rest belongs to my brother in law, who maxed out his and my sister's 4 liter per person duty free allowance and had to use some of ours, which we didn't mind at all.
According to hubby, BiL enjoys his drink but sometimes makes some odd choices. Like the St Remy XO or Drambuie isn't something that hubby would buy. He recommended the Aberfeldy 12 years and Monkey Shoulder to BiL, both which he'd drank before. The Monkey Shoulder is widely available in the supermarkets in UK but here the price of a 1 liter bottle is cheaper than the 700ml bottle at the standard price back home. BiL had bought 9 bottles all together and my sister was starting to throw him some stern look. I think husbands know what that means!! And that would have been his complete hoard had he not hit the jackpot a few days later.
On the penultimate day of our cruise, my BiL won £1000 shopping voucher and that had to be spent on board before we left the cruise ship!!! He and my sister are so lucky!!!! And I was also very happy for them, watching them spend the money. Of course BiL didn't spend it all on booz, that would be fatal!! My sister nabbed herself a designer handbag which is why you see a Mulberry shopping bag in the first image.
After that, there was still over £200 left over to spend. Hubby suggested the Aberfeldy 12 years, another one he'd drank before. He also mentioned some years ago he bought a bottle of Chivas Regal 16 years. When BiL saw the 18 year old bottle, he snapped that up. And finally, the store assistant invited the guys to taste the Jack Daniels Sinatra Select, a special limited edition that "pays tribute to Jack’s biggest fan: Frank Sinatra." At £120, this was quite expensive, but the offer of a taster paid off. The guys both said it's a nice smooth whisky, and when it doesn't cost you anything, it's worth it. So that got added to complete the hoard. Both BiL and my sister were now a pair of happy bunnies.
By comparison, hubby's hoard was meagre, we didn't win the jackpot!! His only purchase on board was the a bottle of 13 year single malt from Speyside in Scotland called Fable. It's a 58.8% ABV and according to the box has lemon cream, puff pastry and melon flavour. These would taste lovely in a dessert but I had a whiff, and whisky definitely isn't my cup of tea.
Fable has a series of ten whiskies and their names make up a mythical story. When I read it, it felt like reading a Splinterlands tale. The shop had three of them in stock, Clanyard, Piper and Hound and the guys tasted all three. Originally Piper was hubby's favourite but they only had one in stock and that was sold. He settled on the Hound in the end.
The second bottle hubby bought was the Big Peat, an Islay blended malt scotch. Normally he's not a big fan of Islay nor blended, but I guess there's always exceptions, as it's all down to the blend and the palate. The Big Peat isn't widely available in stores in UK, and when hubby saw it in Gibralter (it was one of the stops on our cruise holiday) and at a reasonable price he jumped on it immediately. Another happy bunny, and I love it when there's a happy ending to a holiday.
Answers to March PUD Guessing Contest
Talking of win prizes, let's take a look at this month's PUD Guessing Contest. It's to guess the price of a painting I saw in the gallery on board the cruise ship. Don't you think they look rather funky? The artist is called Mr Brainwash and is a French guy whose real name is Thierry Guetta and is based in LA in America. I wonder if he will do a version of Hive 😀
Anyway, the price of each painting is 2️⃣7️⃣5️⃣0️⃣. I'm very impressed that four of your guessed in correctly!!
Well done to ,

and
who made a smart move by trusting
!!! You will all share the 10HBD.
