Hay momentos que están grabados en el alma, y este fin de año en Uberlândia ha sido uno de ellos. Entre el sabor de una hallaca, la sorpresa del pavo horneado y el sonido de nuestras gaitas, recibí el 2026 sintiéndome más en casa que nunca. Aquí, estimados hivers, les comparto cómo fue mi noche.
There are moments that remain etched in your soul, and this New Year's Eve in Uberlândia was one of them. Between the taste of hallaca, the surprise of roast turkey and the sound of our bagpipes, I welcomed 2026 feeling more at home than ever. Here, dear Hivers, I share with you how my night went.
Es 31 de diciembre de 2025. La mañana en Uberlândia se siente acogedora, con nubes que decoran el cielo inmenso de Minas Gerais. La ciudad está en un lugar tan alto que permite ver a lo lejos el horizonte brasileño, y me siento listo para disfrutar de esa brisa fresca que nos acompaña durante el día. Aunque por la tarde el sol calentó un poco la ciudad, el cielo se llenó de colores hermosos, preparando el escenario perfecto para despedir el año con un atardecer espectacular.
It is 31 December 2025. The morning in Uberlândia feels cosy, with clouds decorating the immense sky of Minas Gerais. The city is in such a high place that you can see the Brazilian horizon in the distance, and I feel ready to enjoy the cool breeze that accompanies us throughout the day. Although the sun warmed the city a little in the afternoon, the sky was filled with beautiful colours, setting the perfect scene to say goodbye to the year with a spectacular sunset.
Este año me dejó muy contento porque logré cumplir las metas que me propuse. Siento mucha paz en mi alma y en mi corazón por haberme atrevido a romper barreras mentales y por las nuevas amistades que llegaron a mi vida. Me siento tranquilo y con mucha fe para recibir el 2026, deseando de todo corazón que, para mi familia, mis amigos y todos nosotros, sea un año lleno de oportunidades y de una vida digna y brillante.
This year left me very happy because I managed to achieve the goals I set for myself. I feel great peace in my soul and in my heart for having dared to break down mental barriers and for the new friendships that have come into my life. I feel calm and full of faith as I welcome 2026, wishing with all my heart that it will be a year full of opportunities and a dignified and bright life for my family, my friends and all of us.
Cerca de las nueve de la noche, me alisté con mi hijo, su compañero y Toby, el perrito maltés, para irnos a la casa donde nos invitaron a cenar. Esta vez voy a comer hallacas y pavo horneado. Para mí es algo nuevo, pues estoy conociendo esta rica tradición brasileña de cenar pavo. Nos compartimos las cosas para llevar: mi hijo se encargó del pavo, que él mismo preparó, y también llevamos el equipo de sonido. Toby, con su energía de siempre, se portó superinquieto y emocionado por todas las calles hasta que llegamos.
Around nine o'clock at night, I got ready with my son, his friend, and Toby, the Maltese dog, to go to the house where we were invited for dinner. This time I'm going to eat hallacas and roast turkey. It's something new for me, as I'm getting to know this rich Brazilian tradition of eating turkey for dinner. We shared the things we needed to take with us: my son took care of the turkey, which he prepared himself, and we also took the sound system. Toby, with his usual energy, was super restless and excited all the way there.
Nos recibieron con mucho cariño y ayudamos a organizar la mesa. Había de todo: el pavo, uvas, frutas y ensalada. Las bebidas estaban bien frías en la nevera, listas para el brindis. Enseguida se ambientó con música venezolana para alegrar el ambiente: gaitas zulianas, la Billo's, Los Melódicos y esas canciones que a los venezolanos nos gusta bailar todo el año. Aproveché para bailar con la amiga que me propuso bailar en la fiesta y así despedir el 2025 con pura alegría.
We were welcomed warmly and helped set the table. There was everything: turkey, grapes, fruit and salad. The drinks were nice and cold in the fridge, ready for the toast. Venezuelan music was played to liven up the atmosphere: gaitas zulianas, Billo's, Los Melódicos and those songs that we Venezuelans like to dance to all year round. I took the opportunity to dance with the friend who asked me to dance at the party and thus bid farewell to 2025 with pure joy.
Cuando faltaba poco para las doce, empezamos a cenar de forma sencilla pero muy rica. Mi plato tenía su hallaca, una buena tajada de pavo y ensalada de gallina. ¡Qué delicia! Es la primera vez que como pavo horneado y me encantó. Recibo el año nuevo aquí en Brasil con un abrazo apretado de mi hijo y con Toby, que no se le despega ni un segundo. Tomé apenas un par de cervezas y una copita de vino, pero eso sí, ¡no aguanté las ganas y repetí hallaca y pavo!
Shortly before midnight, we began to eat a simple but very tasty dinner. My plate had its hallaca, a nice slice of turkey and chicken salad. How delicious! It's the first time I've eaten roast turkey and I loved it. I welcome the New Year here in Brazil with a big hug from my son and Toby, who doesn't leave his side for a second. I only had a couple of beers and a glass of wine, but I couldn't resist going back for seconds of hallaca and turkey!
Con esta despedida cierro un capítulo de mi vida. Dejo atrás cualquier resentimiento y me doy cuenta de que las viejas heridas ya han sanado. Le doy la bienvenida al futuro con fuerza, listo para seguir adelante, con salud, prosperidad y esa luz interna que siempre me guía.
With this farewell, I close a chapter of my life. I leave behind any resentment and realise that old wounds have healed. I welcome the future with strength, ready to move forward, with health, prosperity and that inner light that always guides me.
