We have finished - After 24 days we have a complete Home Alone house built of Lego and a couple of empty boxes where previously there was 24 beers.
If you have been following my feed you'll know that over the last 24 days I've been building the Lego Home Alone set (ready for a centrepiece for Christmas) as well as drinking a specially curated beer a day from Carwyn Cellars.
Here the previous posts
Day 1-3
Day 4-7
Day 8-10
Day 11-13
Day 14-17
Day 18-21
Which means we have just three day left
Day 22
Mismatch Cherry Dubbel -
Mismatch are a South Australian brewery, The concept of a cherry dubbel is a an interesting one, I generally like the toffeeness of dubbels. Cherries I can take or leave, but I understand the chritsmas appeal. But this beer is really quite disappointing, it has a bit of sweetness and the carbonation is gentle, but it’s has this weird tartness which doesn’t work. 3.5/5
And for the build we have moved down into the basement, this is eventually all going to be covered up so I thought I should take a shot before we join it all up, as you can see we spent the time building some black walls which were boring, but then a washer and dryer which was surprisingly satisfying.
Day 23
Working Title - Jingle Jangle Toasted pine double West coast IPA
I know very little about working title other than to say they are out of Brisbane - but if this beer is representative of their output I'll be finding out a lot more it is a A very good and super refreshing piney west IPA which suits a Australian Christmas very well - stunningly balanced 4.25/5
Not much in todays build, there is the furnace, which does have a light in it so that it can menacingly taunt Kevin as well as the shell of the kitchen which will be stacked above it. I also noticed on the second Canvent box another Home Alone reference 'Merry Christmas you filthy Canimal' is of course referencing the video that Kevin plays to scare the pizza man and wet bandits.
Now all along we have been one step behind with the Lego shots because well a picture of undrunk beer and unbuilt Lego is boring so it is time to catch up - so here is a shot of the detail of the kitchen build which I actually did on the 23rd - complete with shaft for throwing an iron down, the pizza boxes which started all this trouble and the worlds largest microwave.
Day 24
Spotty Dog - Last Dog
Final Beers in Canvent a little like final episode in a TV series are always difficult. So Carwyn have gone for a collaboration brew with Spotty Dog who are a Tasmanian Brewery. They have thrown everything at this - Last Dog is an imperial stout aged in shiskey barrels. And it’s big and smooth and dark, I has a strange kirch like quality to it - raspberry and cherries and herbs which leaves a strange aftertaste - I think the problem is it’s too boozy. 4
And the final day of building is the tree house out the back and a series of Christmas decorations for front of the house. I have to say as a finished product it looks really good, it was fun to build and spreading it over 24 days really worked, even if a couple of the build days we a little simple.
The next, not advent step it to put a lighting kit on this to get it the extra christmas touch.
