I can hear you asking already, "OH, MY GOD! WHAT IS THAT VILE FILTH ON THAT PLATE?" Don't worry. It's just roast turkey leftovers raided for a midnight snack Sometimes tastiness is inversely proportional to photogenicness. At any rate, I hope a heavy dose of turkey and a mild dose of alcohol can cure my insomnia.
The beer itself is interesting. There is a piney hops scent on opening the can, but it isn't overwhelming. The taste is also much less aggressive than many an IPA. 6.2% ABV is a bit on the strong side for most beers, but not really by IPA standards.
SO WHAT IS THIS SWILL IN ITS PRETTY, PRETTY CAN?
Pretty tasty, that's what. It doesn't need to be over-the-top on anything because it's simply a good beer. Yes, it's mild by IPA standards, but it's a lot more interesting than a standard lager. Those new to microbrews may find it more palatable than most, and it strikes me as a good refreshing brew if you just want to crack open a cold one at the end of the work day.
And speaking of workdays, while I wasn't especially productive, I did finally get a start on the second coat of paint for my shed. The project was interrupted last year when early snow hit.
One wall done, three to go. Oh, and all trim. That's why I have cans of red and white barn paint. Although in hindsight, it might have been funny to mix them into a weird pink shade. Not funny enough to look at every day for the foreseeable future, though.
The Mother Thing and I played another round of Upwords tonight. I won again. Now I am dabbling in war game miniatures. I know I said I'd be reviewing that Space Marines game, but I got sidetracked by these guys from Maelstrom's Edge. A full review of these minis and the game may eventually turn up, too. I will say now that these kits include a surprising number of spare parts. One sprue contains two miniature except fornl the lack of a head for then second guy. Another has three options for legs. It seems like a strange use of plastic, but there are lots of options for custom miniatures and conversions as a result, and that seems to be the intent. The two figures on the left are a converted special character using a spare officer's head, and a sci-fi guy with a head sourced from the Citadel Skulls kit I also raided for my objective markers. He'll probably be a gift to a friend at some point once he's painted.
I got impatient and fully assembled one basic soldier before remembering that it's a lot easier to paint these guys if the heads and rifle arms are kept separate at first. I also need to set up the pauldrons for the soldiers so I can brime first and finish assembling later. Tue heads got drilled out with a pin vise so I could use toothpicks with some Elmer's glue to hold them. The poster putty from last time didn't seem secure enough, and school glue will usually pull apart easily enough, since most are water-soluble and primer isn't.
That ramble through my day should suffice to keep some of you entertained, I hope. Now the beer is gone, a post is written, and I remembered there was leftover stuffing, too. Time for seconds!
