Well, it used to be called Todd the Axe Man, but from what I recall, Todd left Surly for Three Floyd's over some type of drama...I don't know the details. Yet, brewers; lots of drama with some of them, from my experience. Still, for a little pre-Halloween snack, I opted for what they now call Axe Man IPA. It's "dank, hoppy, and loud." Plus, it's over 7% ABV...just my type of warmer for a cool fall night.
I got a fairly fresh batch; if I can find beers like this within two months, I'll give it a go. I try to stay away from IPAs that are over two months old, as I've not had much luck with the taste.
This pours out with lots of head, but the head subsides quickly. The copper is a rich copper hue in color. This one is not as "unfiltered" as other IPAs I've been drinking this fall.
There isn't a booze burn to this one; plus, the hop bill is Citra and Mosiac hops, so the taste carries a pleasant citrus flavour with it. As I was drinking these, I had to watch the intake as we decided to get one last grill in this fall with some ribeyes. Thanks again to our meat CSA, it turned out to be a wonderful fall feast of steaks and potatoes.
The steaks turned out perfect! And, once Hattie was in bed and asleep, and my wife watching television, I took a few Axe Men outside to enjoy my binoculars, the stars, and my new fire pit.
A perfect #beersaturday; I have to enjoy the weather while I can. I hope you, too, enjoyed your Saturday as well. Until next weekend, here's to a Happy Halloween.
