Welcome to my storm blogging series. Things have evolved quite a bit during the several hours after the first update. If you didn't see it already then you can find it here Storm Approaching - Update 1. Right now the time is a little after midnight.
The wind has picked up quite much after my last update. After 7 hours the wind picked up from 3m/s to 8m/s. This is the average. As of now, the highest wind gust has been 16.8m/s, measured by my own weather station on the roof. Here is the chart from the time the wind started to really pick up.
Islands of Estonia get well over 20m/s wind gusts.
I thought we were going to have much more rain to this point but I here didn't. Stronger downpours passed the capital area.
Air pressure has dropped like a rock, on the 985Hpa at the moment and will drop further until the day comes. Here is my weather station data on the air pressure chart.
The sea level hasn't started to rise because the wind is from the south and blows away from the coast at the moment but that will change soon enough and the level will start to rise. Near my home sea level is 84cm over zero at the moment, which is already high. I actually went to the beach and saw the conditions there. The sea is calm as heck right now. Even though the wind is quite strong it's from the wrong direction. Here is the current sea level map.
I also put together a short video of the current conditions. Pretty strong wind and some small debris and branches fly around. Didnt see any downed trees or big branches anywhere yet.
This storm behaves like a major hurricane would in somewhere like Florida. Just on a much smaller scale and weaker. Still, the mechanics remain the same. There is a central storm eye where the weather is very calm. This will go over Helsinki and it's near enough to us that there is a possibility that the wind will slow down for a bit during the night and will quickly pick up in the morning again and even stronger. I will do another update tomorrow during the daytime on how things are going because the main strength will arrive around 16:00 or 4 p.m.
