Hello friends of Hive and the prestigious Q-Inspired community, it's a pleasure to be with you once again after a few long months when I participated in the initiatives "Spread The Vibes" , "It Can't Be True" and "From the Neighbour's Point Of View" proposed by my dear and
who receive with much love and a good sense of humor to those who publish in this great family of musicians and artists with great stories to tell.
Today I say present in this new initiative called π Meeting Your Favourite Musician raised by , I really liked it since I saw her post so I didn't want to miss this great opportunity to share with you my experience... so let's get to it.
The initiative consists of a few questions and the first one goes like this:
1- Have you ever met your favorite musician/group in person? Maybe it's someone you already knew but later became your favorite artist(s)?
For both questions my answer is yes... All this happened where I lived before coming to Colombia, a city in Venezuela where I lived for 18 years and which I miss very much nowadays, its name is Maracay and it is known for being one of the most rockers cities in the country; from there have come out very talented bands and internationally recognized for their great talent on stage. One of them is Sexto Sonar, they are not currently active as a band, its members are in several countries working hard in alternative projects for a few years now. The truth is that I met them personally, I shared with them in many of their concerts and it was thanks to their vocalist who taught me the art of singing and their guitarist who is a master of the strings, who motivated me to continue what was the first big step I took in music... to form a rock band; that was a dream come true, so much so that later we played on the same stages as them... incredible right?
2- Did you attend his/her/their concerts and made the meeting possible? What was it like? What did you feel?
Well friends, this is where the good part comes.... In 2009 I was coming out of a relationship that at the time marked my life. I was so disappointed, frustrated and depressed that I started to care less about my job, my appearance and my mental health... everything was dark in my life at that time and even more considering that this girl was the one I wanted to spend the rest of my days with, only that things got really out of control after 2 years of relationship.
This girl never wanted me to dabble in music, in fact, she was very angry that I learned to play guitar and that was a personal goal that I had but that I could not achieve because of her. A few months after our relationship ended, I decided to learn to play guitar, my dad taught me the basics and then I entered an academy to learn much more; the truth is that I met very cool people and for me that was very therapeutic, that way I could cope very well with the breakup because I focused on it a lot. As this happened, I started to do better in my job too and many things improved, only that the pain was so latent that I still could not feel 100% well.
It is worth mentioning that my dad gave me my first guitar, it was an acoustic, I still have it and with it I started to compose my first songs; after a few months that same year, I managed to buy my first electric guitar... that was very cool and it convinced me that I wanted to have a serious path in music, so an idea came to my mind... to form a rock band and I started to materialize that idea.
The first thing I did was to show my songs to a friend I made in guitar lessons, it turns out that he played drums too and when he heard one of my songs he told me let's work on it and see what comes out. That moment gave me a lot of happiness because I already saw light on that path, so I decided to go to his house to start the adventure.
Everything went very well, we started to look for more musicians and the result was getting better and better... one day on Facebook a friend who already had his rock band, published a flyer promoting a concert of an emerging progressive metal band called Sexto Sonar; that concert was the launch of their first album and as I saw many friends tagged I decided to attend the concert... I will leave you an official video of the band that memorable day.
That band live, was something amazing and as a curious fact a friend from college who studied with my brother was one of the cameramen of the video and it was precisely this friend who recorded us, I mean my band, our first music video in 2012 ... even more incredible right?
After that concert, I tracked that band and showed them to my band members, they were amazed and wanted to go to a next concert, but before that something out of this world happened.... one day on Facebook and in view of the amount of followers that this band was having, they decided to make a contest to spend a day with them in their studio with the privilege of hearing them play their first album, I confess that day I was bad because I found out that the girl with whom I had ended the relationship, had a partner and was someone who I did not like because he was looking out for her during our relationship; I was so devastated that I signed up for the contest and the next day appears in my notifications the comment that I had been selected along with other people .... I was about to not go, but I decided to do it to distract my mind more. That was a Friday night and I remember that it occurred to me to write something for the band to give them as a gift the day of the meeting.
The day came, Sunday morning and I went to the meeting point; there were the selected ones and then the guys from the band arrived, they greeted us all and then they took us in a bus to their rehearsal place. The studio was in the guitarist's house, an amazing place, it looked like a bunker and had all the technical equipment even to make a music video; they didn't let us record, but they did let us take pictures, these, I will show you below were the ones I took with my camera. The day was amazing, they gave us food, drinks, we listened to them play and at night they made a barbecue for us. The writing I did for them, I gave it to them after they played and they loved it. I read it in front of everyone, so much so that they asked me to sign it with a dedication and so I did. Before the end of the night the vocalist of the band did a raffle, the prize was a piece of the drums signed by the whole band and guess what?...yes, I won it hahaha.
After that day I attended all the concerts they did in the city and I even participated in the recording of the video of my favorite song of their album that I will leave you below, so, if you look at the thumbnail of the video, the one you see there with the vocalist is me... I don't know if this was epic or legendary hahaha What do you think?... the vocalist and I are great friends and we talk in the present, did I mention he was my singing teacher? Well yes friends, he taught me how to sing and that's how I was able to go out with my band on stage to rock.
Photos with the band and the writing I made for them as a gift.
The band playing their entire album just for us.
One of the band's many live concerts, which I attended.
Video of the band in which I participated, you can see me in the thumbnail π
I will leave you a video of them live where there were almost 5000 people, I was in the audience and after the concert I went with my band to share with them, with Sexto Sonar until dawn. As you can see they were incredible live, they moved masses and their way of playing was one of the best in the scene.
Sexto Sonar Live 2010
As an additional anecdote I tell you that before the guitarist left Venezuela, I bought one of the distortion pedals he used to play the electric guitar, it is the same one I use to play in my music videos here in Hive... I will also leave you some pictures of the first Sexto Sonar album autographed by the band for me.
Autographed album by the band members and distortion pedal that belonged to their guitarist.
3- For what artists would you travel to the other side of the world and can you describe such an adventure?
This question is difficult, honestly there are many bands that I would like to see live in 2 very famous festivals in Germany and England, I'm talking about Wacken Open Air and Download Festival; I would like to live that experience, but before that I must overcome the biggest fear of my life ... flying in planes hahaha, believe it or not I have never traveled by plane, but it is something I am committed to do. That would already be an adventure, to be able to travel by plane, being there I assure you that the rest will be great, I imagine myself with a lot of anxiety, but enjoying until the time of the concert. I leave you one of the bands I would like to see in those festivals.
4- Which artists would you like to spend the night or the day with and tell us what you imagine would happen?
Following the sequence of the previous question, there is a band that I would like to meet in person and share with them, especially with their vocalist, a woman that I love and who is very cool since I follow her through her social networks and apart from being a rock and metal lover, she likes video games like me. The band is called Lacuna Coil, they are Italian and play gothic metal, a few months ago I brought a cover of one of my favorite songs of theirs to Hive Open Mic, and to meet them would be a dream come true... this is the video of my cover π Click Here .
I imagine myself talking to them a lot, asking them about how they started the band and how has been their path in the music industry, and I imagine myself playing with them some of their songs. I think that after that, we would drink, listen to bands we like and then play some video games hahahaha... that would be great right? And who knows, a romantic dinner with the vocalist hahaha ok ok ok that's dreaming too much hahaha... I leave you a video of this tremendous band.
Friends thank you very much for having made it this far, I hope you enjoyed this as much as I did and leave me in the comments what you thought of it; I want to invite ,
and
to participate, I'm sure they must have great stories to tell.
See you next time... You Rockkk!!!! πππ₯ποΈπΈπΆβ€οΈππ»π₯π«π―
