It's been a while but decided it is finally time for me to start distance running again after being out of the game from an ankle injury.
Highlights of the experience:
- Running down a trail and passing by a couple dirt bikers.
- Traversing the path across ponds with numerous wasps. Felt like a game of Frogger as I timed my jumps so as to not be stung.
- Running on top of the highway dividers between a construction site and the roadway with no sidewalk. Not an ideal situation for a pedestrian.
- Stopping to buy a mini umbrella at Walgreens as that UV was extreme yet again. Of all places, I ended up sunburned on the back of my calves even after applying sunscreen. Thankfully with the strategic use of the umbrella, my upper extremeties were spared.
- Apparent, Junebug massacre in May? Not sure the biology of these critters but their corpses seemed littered in regular intervals along the Converse North park path. Perhaps, the fallout from some sort of migratory pattern. idk
- Stopping by Crawfish King near the end of the trek, of course!
- Seeing some relatively fresh street art
- Chancing upon a QuikTrip parking lot car show. Pics below.
New kicks in the run rotation. New Balance Fresh Foam X 860v14 (LLM suggests they will be good for recovery runs)
My reward: 1.5 lbs of boiled crawfish with Crawfish King's delicious house sauce (extra spicy!)
This place is located in Live Oak Texas and is my favorite restaurant. Owner noticed I came in with a water bladder and offered to wash and fill it back up with ice water.
Now THAT is customer service!
Highly recommend! My top items there are the crawdads, mango sticky rice and green papaya salad. Matter of fact, they inspired me to give my own papaya salad a try and it was a hit. Simple recipe: Thin sliced green papaya + rice vinegar + crunchy garlic + hot chili oil + pinch of five spice seasoning.
I am also experimenting with fermenting a batch as well vice pickling. Looking forward to that.

Hopefully, I can steadily increase my mileage and get to back where I was last year. Eventually I will brave the entire Salado Creek Greenway which is approximately 27 miles IIRC.
Addendum:
The above post was what I drafted for my run last Friday but unfortunately I procrastinated the day after then the clock struck midnight so today's post represents both distance runs.
Had a lot of construction to navigate through!
More Texas graffiti!
I don't think that fence is keeping out a determined intruder! As you can see, the bottom is wide OPEN!
Reminds me of this. lol
Put 20 miles in so far this month so think it's a good start.
