Yesterday I was happy to notice that the gym has 1kg weights now. Actually, it was a girl making fun of them who made me notice them. Previously the lightest weights were 1.25kg and a few rings of a pound or less.
For me, this was a serious improvement. This meant I could finally lift round numbers on the leg press, where the sled weighs 53kg without plates. My PR went from 173kg to 180kg.
Random photo: bicycle jersey from the Jan Janssen Classic ride. I'm selling it.
I also learned why I had difficulty making progress on the bench press. I started at 50kg and never got further but failed a few times. This time, I tried a close grip for a change, which made me tired even while lifting just the 20kg bar. This means my triceps are underdeveloped compared to my pecs. I'll be training a high volume at a low weight on the bench for a while.
