Today marks the fourth day of Ramadan. In Indonesia, where the majority of people are Muslim, the month brings a different rhythm to daily life. The mornings feel quieter, the afternoons slower, and there’s a shared sense of patience as people go through the day while fasting.
Since I’m fasting as well, I tried not to move around too much to conserve energy. Even so, traffic outside remains as crowded as usual. Ramadan doesn’t seem to reduce the number of vehicles on the road. Life continues at its normal pace, just with a bit less physical energy and a bit more self-control.
Instead of going far, I stayed around my apartment building. I spent some time walking slowly around the complex, just getting some light movement without tiring myself out. One of the small highlights of the day was greeting the stray cats that live around the building.
Thankfully, these cats are not neglected. There’s a small community here that regularly feeds them and looks after their well-being. They make sure the cats have food and are in good condition. It’s comforting to see that kind of care and responsibility, especially during Ramadan, a month that emphasizes compassion and kindness.
Overall, it was a quiet and simple day. Nothing extraordinary happened, but sometimes that’s enough. Ramadan continues to move at its own steady pace, and I’m slowly adjusting to the rhythm of fasting while keeping daily routines manageable. Looking forward to the days ahead.
