At home, April is a month of celebrations that starts with my youngest son’s birthday on the 1st and ends with mine on the 7th, although since we’ve had our kitten, it’s been extended to the 28th, when we celebrate her birthday.
We don’t usually throw a party, but the birthday boy gets to eat his favorite meal, and we cut a cake to sing “Happy Birthday.”
Since we only had sparklers, we sang a short version instead of the extra-long one that’s customary in Venezuela—a tradition I cling to as part of keeping our customs alive.
In the end, my little one had a good time, and that’s what matters. We’ll see what I come up with to celebrate my last year with an age starting with the number 4.
