its a treatment for Varroa, a mite that infests pretty much every bee hive. It's frequently the cause for colony collapse and needs to be carefully managed. At this time of year, they sneak in with the brood and infest them, so the oxalic treatment is supposed to prevent that. Sadly, we have to deal with them pretty much year round. Only bee colonies that don't have the problem are in New Zealand!
