I was all ready to start making pepper jams this morning but after looking at all the fruit I had that needed to be processed, figured I best get that done first. Then I walked out to the garden and the bright sun, figured I best do the watering first.
Yeah, I'ma a Southern born hillbilly from Arkansas, living in the country in Hawaii. We take a look around And see what has to be done today, what can be saved for tomorrow, and what we can do whenever we feel like it. That way if we git that hankering, we can go fishing, swimming, hunting or shopping, we can just do it. But not until we get the most urgent stuff dun first.
I almost went to the beach after watering as the weather was so beautiful but I knew I had to "gitrdun!". So I stepped out into the garden grabbed a water hose and went to work.
While I was watering, I was also checking to see what needed harvesting. Lots and lots of guavas had ripened from yesterday's heat. Loads of papayas turning but too soon to pick. Green tomatoes all over the place but need to grow a bit more. 3 pineapples still to small to pick and a huge moranga tree full of beautiful blooms and nutritious leaves... okay pick the guava.
Next feed the chickens, check the eggs, check the water.. talk to em a bit then go make more coffee. Your gonna need it. Especially if you're going git food processed and make jams today. Start with that big beautiful juicy pineapple.
Now chop em up and try not to eat too much while you are doing it. Gotta save some for jam.
Next guava. Cut in half, scoop insides into my handy dandy hand juicer and the peels in a big bowl for the chickens
Next bag em and throw em in the freezer just in case you don't get to the jam making today.
Next oranges.
Love dat fresh orange juice..
Think I'll pour me a glass and the rest in the fridge
Num!! Break time.
Think I'll go to the Punaulu Backery and git sum mcnut ice cream and eat it on my way to the beach.
