The joy of celebrating simple things
In 2023, a film titled Perfect Days, directed by Wim Wenders, was released. This film is about the daily life of a public toilet cleaner, and although it is a film with little dialogue, it leaves us with a beautiful message: You don't need big things to be happy; it is the daily routines that bring the peace you seek to your life.
Sometimes we don't need to have many things to realize that happiness is with us and that it is there, within our reach. Those little things, perhaps insignificant to others but important to us, are what make our days flow and everything unfold with harmony, serenity, and total acceptance. Today I would like to list ten of those simple and sufficient possessions that make my days meaningful.
The first thing would be the window. I can't think of anything more precious to me than looking out of it every morning and realizing that the world is waking up with me. I feel that a human being who looks out of a window does so because they are seeking to listen to themselves.
Another of my great possessions is my bed, large, spacious, soft, comfortable. I have slept in better beds, but I have always missed mine, the one that smells like me and has the perfect contour for my body and my weight
How to leave my books behind. Not just one, but several. I always return to them as if they were great friends. I seek them out not only when I have questions, when I want answers, but also when I need to relax, have fun, and even when this world tires me and I want to be inspired to create others.
What would I do without my glasses? The world would be less clear or darker. The beauty of my surroundings would be denied to me, since without them I would have to imagine everything that others see. Due to my nearsightedness, astigmatism, and keratoconus, my glasses are essential for my eyes.
Nowadays, my laptop is essential. It is a precious asset, as I use it to do my work. Just as a painter needs paint and a baker needs flour, I need my computer. It is one of the few possessions I take with me when I travel.
Another item that always accompanies me is my cell phone. It is not a luxurious, expensive, or latest model device with extraordinary features. No. It is an efficient, basic cell phone that meets my expectations at this time. Perhaps when my finances and those of my country improve, it will be replaced by another, since these devices, rather than being considered my other arm, are work tools.
Drinking coffee is not only the most delicious way to wake me up, but also a ritual. Coffee has the same effect on me as sunsets: it leaves me speechless and I wish it would last forever. A good cup of coffee in the morning is one of the things I appreciate and value.
My clothes and shoes, possessions that cover my body and fit my feet. They are not many things, nor are they expensive, but they are mine and I love them. Then there are the clouds, the air, the breeze, the sun, the stars, the moon, the trees, the sea, the sand, the mountains. The night, the day, hope. Possessions that may be worthless to others, but for me they make my days light, like someone who has everything and owes nothing to anyone.
