As already announced here last Sunday, I would like to describe the sunset tour at Borobudur temple complex in this blog today. I had set myself the goal of performing a light painting there. The preparations for the tour were quite extensive. At the time, I was working in Jakarta for a few weeks and I had researched the sights on Java on the internet. I liked BOROBUDUR straight away. Then all I had to do for the weekend was book a flight, a hotel, and the sunrise and sunset tours. Because only these allow the visitor to enter or leave the temple in the dark.
Wie hier am letzten Sonntag bereits angekündigt, möchte ich heute in diesem Blog die Sonnenuntergangstour an Borobudur Tempelanlage beschreiben. Ich hatte mir zum Ziel gesetzt, dort ein Lightpainting zu performen. Die Vorbereitungen für die Tour war ziemlich umfangreich. Zu dieser Zeit arbeitete ich für ein paar Wochen in Jakarta und ich hatte mich im Internet über die Sehenswürdigkeiten auf Java informiert. BOROBUDUR gefiel mir sofort. Dann musste ich für das Wochenende nur noch einen Flug, ein Hotel und die Sonnenaufgangs- und Sonnenuntergangstouren buchen. Denn nur diese erlauben es dem Besucher, den Tempel bei Dunkelheit zu betreten oder zu verlassen.

Waiting For The Sunset
After resting at the hotel after the sunrise tour, I went back to the temple for the sunset tour.
It was still late afternoon and the temperatures were correspondingly high. Most of the tourists gathered on the side of the temple where the sunset could be seen. This enabled me to look for a few vacancies on the temple to prepare for a light painting.
The atmosphere during sunset on the BOROBUDUR is something special. I, too, paused to enjoy this spectacle.
Nachdem ich mich im Hotel nach der Sonnenaufgangstour etwas ausgeruht hatte, ging es zur Sonnenuntergangstour wieder auf den Tempel. Es war noch später Nachmittag und die Temperaturen entsprechend hoch. Die meisten Touristen sammelten sich auf der Seite des Tempels, wo der Sonnenuntergang zu sehen war. Das versetzte mich in die Lage ein paar freie Stellen auf dem Tempel zu suchen, um ein Lightpainting vorzubereiten.
Die Stimmung während des Sonnenuntergangs auf dem BOROBUDUR ist etwas besonderes. Auch ich hielt inne, um dieses Schauspiel zu genießen.

Preparing Of Lightpainting
After I had chosen a spot, it just had to get dark. Most tourists left the temple after the sun disappeared behind the mountains.
The security guards were already getting restless when I made no move to leave the place. They then spoke to me. An attempt to persuade the guards to stay at least until midnight failed. Maybe it was because the muezzin was already calling to prayer. After all, it was the night before the highest Muslim holiday, the Eid al-Adha festival of sacrifice. I was able to persuade the guards to finish a picture.
I first illuminated the scene with the KLARUS XT11GT.
The KLARUS XT11GT has a screw ring at the front, with which round colored foils can be easily attached to the lamp.
Then I used the SOFIRN SP36 with color foils and blade around
a circular figure to paint the Buddha figure.
I had exactly one try. The staff did not allow more.
Nachdem ich mir einen Platz ausgesucht hatte, musste es nur noch dunkel werden. Die meisten Touristen verließen den Tempel nachdem die Sonne hinter den Bergen verschwand. Das Wachpersonal wurde schon unruhig, als ich keine Anstalten machte, den Platz zu verlassen. Sie sprachen mich daraufhin an. Ein Versuch die Posten zu überreden, wenigstens bis Mitternacht bleiben zu dürfen schlug fehl. Vielleicht lag es daran, dass der Muezzin bereits zum Gebet rief. Immerhin war es die Nacht vor dem höchsten muslimischen Feiertag, dem Opferfest "Eid al-Adha". Ich konnte das Wachpersonal überreden ein Bild fertigzustellen.
Die Szene wurde von mir erst mit der KLARUS XT11GT ausgeleuchtet.
Die KLARUS XT11GT verfügt vorn über einen Schraubring, mit dem sich rund ausgestanzte Farbfolien gut an der Lampe befestigen lassen.
Dann habe ich die SOFIRN SP36 mit Farbfolien und Blade verwendet um
eine kreisförmige Figur um die Buddha Figur zu malen. Ich hatte genau einen Versuch. Mehr ließ das Personal nicht zu.

The Last Morning
For the next day I hired a taxi driver who took me to a place where you could photograph BOROBUDUR from above before sunrise in the morning. Unfortunately, the temple was hidden behind a thick layer of fog that day. There was no temple to photograph.
Für den nächsten Tag hatte ich mir einen Taxifahrer engagiert, der mich morgens vor Sonnenaufgang an einen Platz brachte, von dem man den BOROBUDUR von oben fotografieren konnte. Leider verbarg sich der Tempel an diesem Tag hinter einer dichten Nebelschicht. Da war kein Tempel zu sehen.

After this disappointment, I first returned to the hotel, had breakfast, packed my things into the taxi, paid for the hotel and started a tour with the taxi driver, past what felt like 1000 temples. We stopped at several of the temple complexes to visit them.
Entry to the big temples had to be paid. Some of the smaller temple complexes are freely accessible and light painting is therefore possible. Maybe next visit.
After about 10 temple visits, my need for religious architecture was met. We set course for the airport.
Nach dieser Enttäuschung kehrte ich erstmal ins Hotel zurück, frühstückte, packte meine Sachen ins Taxi, bezahlte das Hotel und startete mit dem Taxifahrer eine Rundfahrt, vorbei an gefühlt 1000 Tempeln. Wir hielten an mehreren der Tempelanlagen an, um sie zu besichtigen. An den großen Tempeln musste Eintritt bezahlt werden. Einige der kleineren Tempelanlagen sind frei zugänglich und somit ein Lightpainting möglich. Vielleicht beim nächsten Besuch. Nach ungefähr 10 Tempelbesichtigungen war mein Bedarf an religiöser Architektur gedeckt. Wir nahmen Kurs auf den Flughafen.

The airport is more reminiscent of a large bus station. You go to boarding on foot on the runway and look for the right aircraft to board.

Der Flughafen erinnert eher an einen großen Busbahnhof. Man begibt sich zum Boarding zu Fuß auf das Rollfeld und sucht das richtige Flugzeug in das man einsteigt. So ging ein schöne Reise mit einigen schönen Bildern auf dem Chip und vielen schönen Erinnerungen zu Ende. Bleibt gespannt auf meinen nächsten Beitrag auf HIVE am nächsten Sonntag!
