The weather this weekend was amazing. It was perfect hiking weather, with the weather in the canyon just barely hitting 70 degrees.
We hiked up to Timpanogos Cave on Sunday. It was our first hike of the year and the first hike since we have begun working out. We weren't really sure what to expect on this hike. We knew it would be easier than before, but we probably should have taken Saturday off from the Tonal so our bodies could be a bit more rested for the hike.
It is only about 3.5 miles or so round trip, but it is mainly uphill with more than 1000 feet in elevation gain during that time. We are hoping to hike it again pretty soon, but we will definitely take the day off before and probably do a better job at eating a decent breakfast so we have plenty of calories to burn on the hike.
When we got home, we did a recovery workout that was designed to be done after a long hike and it was awesome. It combined some nice deep stretches for the muscles in our legs and incorporated some light strength training for our backs and legs. I think that workout really helped keep the level or soreness down today. It will be pretty cool to see how our bodies recover once we begin planning more hikes for the weekends.
