I have told you about many small villages in Greece that are gradually decaying until they become lifeless history. But this one is thriving. Many old houses are renovated and many more new ones have been built the last years. But how did that happen to a small mountainous village that till the '70s didn't even had a proper road and in the early '90s no one lived there?
The answer is, as usual in similar cases, tourism and in this case winter tourism. This village is the closest settlement to one of the biggest Greek ski centers and of course all those people coming to ski every winter need a place to sleep, eat and have fun during their stay.
Now this is most likely my problem but I don't like new stone houses. In my eyes they look too perfect or even too fake. On the contrary I love the old ones. So although this is a practically new village, I chose to focus on the few old houses that give the essence of the past, instead of the new that demonstrate the touristic development. But as I said that's my problem :)
If you missed it, you can also read this post about the ski center itself.
