Spinning the wheels - Light Painting Camera Rotation on Train Wheels
Another set of images from the exciting nights in the Dresden train depot. The night was once again triggered by Light Painting enthusiast Danilo. Also, I will share some more impressions about the location.
The Weel spin. Camera Rotation Light Painting on a train wheel set.
Drehen wir mal das Drehgestell. Camera Rotation Lightpainting.
What were the settings?
Not a super complicated shot yet not as easy as imagined.
What you see is a featured Light Painting is a single 79 second exposure time photograph. The camera was always set to ISO 100 and the Lens to F11. The Camera was rotated during the exposure in four steps at 90°.
How did that work?
At first, this is our subject for the Camera Rotation
For our main shot I just picked one of the Wheel sets that were in the darkest area and set up my camera pretty much straight at it.
As always the simple lighting tests on the wheel set using white and yellow for the color effect and as a quick test a 180° turn to get aquainted with the set up.
Then we do a 4x 90°
With the main idea in my head I wanted to test also the four-step process, here I quickly just use white. And it looked already fantastic. I did love already this shot. But for my final shot, I did want the yellow in as well. That's what you saw above as the main shot.
Camera Rotation what?
As I described also in my last post about Camera Rotation it is really just what you think. During the exposure, the camera is being turned in a few angles and while doing so I also light up the scene. Everything together and in one exposure without any trickery.
Kamera Rotation Light Painting?
If you are interested in this technique, not too long ago I wrote up an article on the topic. It has been published on my website and here on Hive as a blog post.
Link unten.
