Sunset from Szkodna with a View of the Distant Tatra Mountains
On December 10, 2025, I witnessed one of those magical moments that make it worth having a camera ready at all times. Over the village of Szkodna, the sky ignited with deep shades of orange, red, and soft violet. On the horizon, even though the distance is roughly 150 kilometers, the silhouette of the Tatra Mountains appeared clearly against the glowing sky.
Winter air often brings exceptional clarity, and December sunsets can be surprisingly intense. The short day, the sun’s low position near the horizon, and the presence of cold air masses enhance the depth and richness of the colors. As a result, the landscape forms multiple layers, from the nearby hills to the far mountain ranges, creating a beautifully tonal panorama.
It was one of those moments when nature seems to pause time for a while, revealing just how extraordinary December light can be.
