Waiting for our appointment at the police station. (As I wrote before, a huge post-Covid backlog in passport applications forced us to get an appointment at a police station 500 km from where we live.)
We spent the night at my late grandparents' house not too far from Kokkola. We got fingerprinted for the passports and were free to go about our day as we wanted at about three pm.
We drove off and I suggested that we take a tour of Kokkola while we're here. Boy, was I positively surprised. No one had told me there were entire 12 city blocks and hundreds of 19th century wooden buildings mostly in excellent condition in a single district! I had been regularly visiting my grandparents only half an hour's drive away from Kokkola all my life until they passed away 15-20 years ago while not aware that this treasure existed so close. There were even guided tours. Although most of the buildings were not older than 200 years, the town plan was from the 17th century.
