I'm currently on holiday with my wife at Centre Parcs in (Whinfell Forest) Penrith for a bit of a break. I've taken the opportunity for a wander and got some great shots of red squirrels and birds, and people on a zip wire, but I've been itching to get out and take some shots of the centre at nght.
I almost went out Tuesday night but that was nixed as my battery had run out! But last night as it got dark, just after 11, I nipped out to the lake and shot a panoramic shot, made up of 5 portrait images stitched together. I did a few variations but it was all very similar, but I really liked the lights and their reflections in the lake, and the best bit (Grumpy middle age fella alert!) there were no people!
Whilst shooting this from a veranda that sits off the lakes edge, I turned around as there was a small waterfall that had some coloured lights that I thought looked pretty. This is 3 shots layered on top of each other at different exposures. I feel it has a magical quality to it..
Finally, ever the optimist I tried taking more shots of the centre from the path that runs around the lake, but from low down, through grass and overhanging branches. The camera however kept focusing on the grass and branches in the foreground. Rather than get frustrated, I liked that these were the focal point as the background lights gave a really nice bokeh effect..
As a photographer I try to mix what I do in my shots, I've done still life, some macro work, lightpainting and I enjoy a good model shoot. If you'd like to check out any of my other work I'm on Facebook, or you can find me on Instagram under neilru75
