BENEFITS OF EXERCISE
Weight Loss- Idleness is the major component of excess weight/weight gain. Burning calories through exercise helps in reducing weight.
Building and maintenance of strong muscles and bones- Physical activities such as weight lifting helps in building strong muscles and bones in the body. It is advisable for people to exercise their body at young age for building bone density to prevent weakening of bone(osteoporosis) later in life.
Decrease in exposure to disease- Exercise has been proven to reduce the risk of contacting diseases especially cancer. It helps in reducing risk of chronic disease and improve insulin sensitivity and cardiovascular fitness.
Helps in brain health and memory- Exercise increases rate of heartbeat which is accompanied by increase in flow of oxygen and blood to the brain. This improves the functionality of the brain. Exercise makes the hippocampus (part of the brain that's vital for memory and emotion) to grow in size. Exercise has been shown to reduce changes in the brain that can cause Alzheimer's disease ( a disorder involving loss of mental functions resulting from brain tissue changes mostly due to old age) and Schizophrenia (a psychiatric diagnosis denoting a persistent, often chronic, mental illness variously affecting behavior, thinking, and emotion).
It can make you feel happy- There is a saying that, "an idle hand is the devil's workshop". People engaging in exercise has been seen to be happier and decreased feelings of depression, anxiety and stress. Increasing brain sensitivity for the hormones serotonin and norepinephrine which relieve feeling of depression and, increase in production of endorphins which help produce positive feeling are works done by exercise in the body.
